I can still vividly recall the memory of the day I saw the labs of civil engineering
department in open houseprogram at **** Institute , Guntur eight years ago. Its
machinery and the testing machines interested me a lot. Ibelieve that the best way to
predict the future is to make it. With this belief, I always planned and executed my
lifetowards predetermined goals. I worked towards and secured admission for an
undergraduate program in civilengineering in ****, Guntur which is rated one among the
best engineering college in south India.Once I secured admission to one of the most
competitive and rigorous civil engineering programs in India, Istructured view of what I
might do here. But I found civil engineering even more interesting and challenging
thanwhat I had imagined. Right from the second year, my kind of preparation was to gain
knowledge and subject indepth rather than just getting marks though I was able to put up good marks
on board. My uncle being a civilengineer added to my further inspiration to define my career
goals. About
Undergraduate study, I feel is not a denouement of what I call a journey towards excellen
ce andcompetence. Graduate study a sequel to undergraduate study opens up newer
avenues to explore and gives one awider range of career objectives. My schooling at
elementary and high school has given and excellent command inbasics of mathematics
and science and more importantly ignited in me strong interest in civil engineering.In this
ever-changing world of Engineering and Technology, where each new day sees a spate of
new conceptsand applications and each passing day makes them obsolete, I want to attain the highest
level of education andtranscend new horizons in the chosen field. The vast application
potential and tremendous scope for high career incivil engineering always fascinated me
and I am keen to continue my academic pursuit in this field.Civil engineering as I believe
is the only field where one’s work can be seen and felt directly by the senses andanything
done stays forever to the credit. I feel that this is the field which requires lot of patience,
perseveranceand management skills to be successful. These are qualities which need to
be nurtured with lot of motivation andhard work and my college proved to me a right
place for this objective.Now at this junction of my career, I am confident that when I
make the transition into masters program, I will bebuilding on a strong foundation gained
in the past years. My strategy for graduate study will, therefore, be aprolonged one where
in I shall be consolidating my knowledge in a more specialized way and acquire the
skillsused for the research. My field of interest in civil engineering is Environmental
engineering which has gained lot of prominence in recent years both in India and abroad.
This interest has intuited me to take advanced courses likeEnvironmental Science and
Engineering and Waste Water Management in my final year as elective subjects.I am
applying for your college on an account of its excellent research facilities combined with
distinguished anddedicated faculty. My admission into your esteemed institution is of

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I believe that without high qualifications and insightful knowledge, it is very difficult
tocompete with this fast moving world. If I do not advance, I will fall back. If I walk
awayfrom my challenge today, my self-esteem will forever be scarred, and if I cease to
groweven a little, I will become smaller. I reject the stationary position because it is
always the beginning of the end. This philosophy has played an important role in the
shaping of myobjectives and framing of my plans for the future.The only way I can stand
out in a crowd is to get the best knowledge and best educationfrom the best school in
a well-advanced country. Therefore I am very keen to get theopportunity to
pursue my higher education at a highly reputed university like yours. I aminterested in
doing MSc in Medical Image Computing. This will fulfill my urge to learnm o d e r n
technology related to the field and add to my approach of handling
d i f f i c u l t things in life.I completed my schooling from “Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly
High School” which isan English medium school, well known in our area, scoring
80.53% in Secondary SchoolCertificate (10th) Examination in the year 2004. I was
rewarded for securing distinctionin Mathematics, Science, Social Science and French
language. Because of my merit, I gotadmission in G.N. Khalsa College in science stream,
which is well known in Mumbai for its education and extra-curricular activities. There I
got basic knowledge of subjects likePhysics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. I
secured 86.33% in Physics, Chemistryand Mathematics in my higher secondary
certificate examination (10+2 pattern), 2006.T h a t o p e n e d u p d o o r s f o r m e
t o s e c u r e a d m i s s i o n i n t h e f o u r ye a r d e g r e e p r o g r a m o f Bachelor of
Engineering (B.E.) in Biomedical Engineering at the renowned
WatumullInstitute of Electronics Engineering and Computer Technology
(WIEECT), which isaffiliated to the University of Mumbai. . I had chosen the field of
Biomedical Engineering because I was fascinated by the unique combination of
Biology, Engineering and LifeSciences. This marked the beginning of one of
the most important phases of learning inmy life. This course took me a step
closer towards fulfillment of my goal of delvingdeeper into the world of
Biomedical. During my seven semesters so far at WIEECT,
Ih a v e c o m e a l o n g w a y i n b r o a d e n i n g m y h o r i z o n s . A f t e r l e a r
n i n g t h e b a s i c s o f engineering in the first two semesters (including computer
languages like C and C++), Iwas able to build a solid foundation of Biomedical
Equipment in the next four semesters.Other than core biomedical subjects like
Biomedical Instrumentation, Medical Imaging,Electronic circuit and design, Micro-
Processors and Micro-controllers, I have also studiedsubjects such as Principles of
communication and Communication skills which helpedme gain a firsthand
understanding of managing various activities and resources in the biomedical
industries.I h a v e a l w a y s h e l d t h e o p i n i o n t h a t i f yo u w a n t t o
a c c o m p l i s h a t a s k y o u s h o u l d b e sincerely dedicated towards it and I
follow this in everything I do. The many projects Ihave worked on and
activities I have performed in, I have learned that your outlook andefforts
matter almost as much as the talent you possess. My efficiency to work in a
teamw a s c l e a r l y r e v e a l e d f r o m t h e t e a m p r e s e n t a t i o n o n “ L i e D e t e c t o
rs”. I have given

seminars on SPECT, Filters used in X-rays, Anaesthesia Machine,

Telemedicine andT e l e m e t r y E q u i p m e n t s , E E G e t c d u r i n g m y
u n d e r g r a d u a t e d e g r e e . T h i s g a v e m e a n excellent opportunity to interact
with my professors and fellow students. I have workedas a trainee in “Draeger
Medical Company” India, Mumbai branch for 22 weeks as a partof my course which
gave me an invaluable experience and exposure to the real industrialworld. I have worked
on troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of the equipmentslike ventilators,
Anaesthesia Machine, Patient Monitoring system etc. Presently I amworking
on ‘Rehabilitation Stimulator’ project for my final semester. I believe that physical
and mental fitness goes hand in hand. While I am committed toacademic
excellence, my interests are not restricted because a well rounded personality is pleasing
and admirable. I have been ‘Best Girl Athlete’ for consecutive 2 years
duringmy school days and won many district level medals. I had joined Guide
group
whichg a v e m e t h r i l l i n g e x p e r i e n c e s l i k e r o c k c l i m b i n g , t r e k k i n g a n d
u s i n g t h i n g s f r o m environment as emergency First-Aid. I have performed
in a group dance and a stage acton the Annual Day of my present institute. I
have also secured third place in the intra-college group dance competition. I
have been a part of the girls’ cricket team that hassecured 1st position from past 2
years.I believe that learning is a life-long process. Undertaking MSc will enhance my
academiccareer and put me on a path to fulfill my goals. I am well aware that
studying in UCLdemands hard work, sincerity and punctuality for which I am
physically and mentallyequipped and ready for. The main reason for studying
in UCL is that the standard of education is very high and very well
established particularly in the field of BiomedicalEngineering.I am stubborn to
pursue my MSc in U.K. as it will provide me with best education
and professional experience. My interest is mainly in Medical Imaging as I
always had
a personal liking towards the related subjects in my undergraduate c
o u r s e . A l s o t h e growing advancement and demand of Medical Imaging have
encouraged me to pursuethis course. I intend to gain firsthand knowledge and
