ADDICTION IN MOBILE GAMES

Objectives:
To construct a test/questionnaire about the dimensions of addiction in mobile games:
Cognitive Ability, Emotional Stability, and Social Stability

Definition of terms:
Addiction in Mobile Games generally refers to an excessive, unhealthy amount of playing
mobile games.
 Cognitive Ability is the ability of the brain to process, retrieve, and store information.
 Emotional Stability is the capacity to maintain ones emotional balance under stressful
circumstances.
 Social Stability is a sociological perspective that states a group always seeks to maintain
equilibrium by forcing out ideas and individuals that disagree with popular opinion.

Scoring Procedures:
1. Reverse the score in each domain.
e.g. 4 will be 1, 3 will be 2, 2 will be 3, 1 will be 4
2. Add the check marks in each domain.
e.g. 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 34
3. After getting the sum, interpret the score.
e.g. 34 lies in the High score.

Interpretation of Scores:

31-60 High This shows that you are in control of
your mind; playing games doesn’t affect
your ability to think clearly.

26-30 Average This shows that you can focus on other


things in midst of playing.

0-25 Low This shows that playing affects your
ability to focus; you find it difficult to
think clearly.

II. Emotional Stability

31-60 High This shows that you are emotionally
stable, calm, and do not constantly
experience negative feelings while
playing games.

26-30 Average This shows that playing games can give


you stress but you somehow manage to
cope with it.

0-25 Low This shows that playing games affect


you emotionally; you are emotionally
reactive and have difficulty to cope with
stress.

III. Social Stability

31-60 High This shows that playing games doesn’t
affect your relationship with your
friends and family.

26-30 Average This shows that you sometimes lack


time with friends or family because of
playing games but can still manage to
hang out with them.

0-25 Low This shows that you need to take a break


in playing games. Low socialization can
put your mental health at risk.
