Mechanical Engineering Department

1. Information about department

It is my pleasure to submit the annual report of mechanical engineering department. The mechanical
engineering deals with design and production of machines, tools, and plays and important roles in automobile
sector railways and aerospace systems. The course which have started from the year 1998 in our college. The
Mechanical Engineering Department is highly qualified, experienced and dedicate faculty putting efforts for
creating smart technocrat to accept the challenges in globalization market.
The Department has MOU’s with varies industries like Precision cam shaft Ltd., Solapur, Laxmi Hydrulic
Pvt. Ltd, Prabhu rockshape Pvt. Ltd., Leena Engineering Works,Solapur to get acquainted with industrial
exposure and technical up graduation of technology. We are deputing our staff & faculty for Industrial training,
Content updatining training, AICTE work shop & phase-1 induction training programme organized by NITTR
Bhopal, for continuous up gradation of knowledge.
Apart from academic we are providing the Soft skill training & Personality Development training program
to all students from first year to third years to accept the challenges in corporate industrial sector. We are
motivating the students to participate in various competitions such as Seminars, Paper presentation, Robo-war,
Quiz competition to show their hidden talent. We organize the Industrial visit, Industrial vocational training
program & Expert lecture from various Industries to give Industrial exposure.
The department organizes the State level Paper Presentation Techno Wave-2013. Around 50 students were
participated from various college of Maharashtra.

2. Laboratory details:

The department has well equipped laboratories as per the AICTE & MSBTE norms; The department is well
developed general workshop with Carpentry, Fitting, Plumbing & Smithy shops with standard tools &
accessories. We have machine shop with 20 nos. lathe machines, milling machines & also CNC lathe machine to
learn the students about the industrial automation.
We have basic laboratories like Theory of Machine, Fluid Mechanics & Machinery, Metrology & Quality
control, Refrigeration & air-conditioning, Automobile Engineering, Strength of Material, Engineering Mechanics
lab, Heat Power, Industrial Fluid Power lab. We are having separate IT lab equipped with 20 nos., Computers
of Pentium 4 with Internet facility.

4. Extra Curricular Activity

We have organized a state level paper presentation competition Technowave 2013. To bring the students
on a common platform to intensify their potential such as Presentation skills, Technical data collection.

12. Co-curricular Activity -

Entrepreneurship Development Program


S.P.M. Polytechnic, Kumathe organized one day workshop on “Entrepreneurship Development” on
28/9/2012(Friday) in collaboration with Dnyanadeep Academy, Pune. The workshop was inaugurated by Sou.
Jayashreetai Mane(Trustee, S.P.M., Kumathe), Lead consultant of Dnyanadeep academy Mr. Nitin Deshpande &
Principal of S.P.M. Polytechnic Prof. Rahul Mane. The workshop was arranged for third year Diploma
Engineering students to enhance the Entreneurship skills so as to build a strong nation.

The preface was given by Head of Mechanical Department Prof. Malleshi Bagale. In this workshop valuable
knowledge about EDP concept, path & need, qualities of an entrepreneur, choosing the right business, basics of
proposal, government agencies & schemes and is followed by interviews of successful entrepreneurs. Mr. Nitin
Deshpande, Mr. Suhas Soni & Mr. Nitin Shah were the resource persons for this workshop. In valedictory
function, participation certificates were given to the students followed by feedback from students.
This program was successfully organized by Training & Placement Cell under the guidance of Principal Rahul
Mane. Hon. President Dilip Mane, Director Prof. Pravin More has motivated to organize this workshop.

PUC Center

We are started the authorized PUC Center in Our Department under the Power Engineering Lab
in this Academic Year to conduct the PUC test of Two wheeler & Four wheelers. We provide the PUC Test
Certificates to vehicles for the students , Faculty & nearby society with normal fees. This center we are
running under the socioeconomic criteria.

12. Placements

Many companies are visiting to grab our Diploma students & that vindicates our commitment to society.
The selected number of students through campus is motivators for us. From last three years there is 100%
placement in leading Industries & various MNC.

13. Student Association : MESA

The staff & student of department have established Mechanical Engineering Student Association (MESA)
in 2003.It provides platform to the students to show their hidden talent.
MESA is actively arranging various programs for the students such as Wel-come function for first
year student at the start of academic year. 5th September is a calibration of Teacher day & also Celebrate
Engineers day on 15th September & Welcome function to First year students & farewell function to final year
students.

14. Teaching Aid:


To conduct effective lectures, LCD Projector is used by the faculties to show the powerpoint presentations
during theory periods. Charts are used in the Practical’s. Animated teaching methodologies are used for
drawing subjects.
