BALANCE RATION;
Balance ration is the amount of feed that will supply the proper
amount and prpportion of nutrients needed for an animals to
perform a spcific perpose such as growth
;maintenance;lactation.
Importance of nutrients:
What type of feeds are there and what is their value?
3 There are:
- roughages;less protien;high in fibres less digestible
- concentrates;high protiens;low in fibre;high digestibility
- mineral and vitamin supplements.
How much feed do dairy cattle and buffalo need?
4 This depends on:
- their body weight
- what they produce.
They need carbohydrates and fat for energy and vitamins so their
bodies can work properly.
Plants can make these nutrients from the air, soil, water and with
energy from the sun.
Animals cannot make nutrients, unless you feed the right amountsof
the correct feeds.
Cattle and buffalo are called "ruminants"
because their stomach has 4 parts. With this complex stomach, they can
get nutrients from roughages.
The abomasum is the "real" stomach and is similar to your stomach
