Semester 1 Integrated Math III Exam

REVIEW
You should be completing all these problems and then checking your work to
ensure that you are prepared for your Semester 1 final exam.

Additionally, you are encouraged to look through your notebook and review your
notes, and rework out classwork and homework problems (you can cover up your
original work) to make sure you remember how to do the types of problems we
have seen so far this year.

The following materials are allowed to be used during this exam:

• Pen/pencil/highlighter/eraser
• Ruler/Protractor
▪ NOTE: neither of these will be required for any problems
• Scientific Calculator
▪ NOTE: you need this! Make sure you show up with one.
• One-side of a standard notecard (no larger than 10 cm x 15 cm)
▪ NOTE: I recommend creating this notecard as you study – you are welcome
to write down anything on this post-it that you think will come in handy on
your exam

similar? (We can assume ground is flat and that the person and the tree are both perpendicular to
the ground).

8. A telephone pole 10 meters tall casts a shadow 8 meters long at the same time that a tree
nearby casts a shadow 14 meters long. How tall is the tree? Explain using the similarity
theorems how this problem can be solved using similar triangles.

diagram as part of your response.

16. An airplane is flying at an altitude of 6000 m over the ocean directly toward a coastline. At a
certain time, the angle of depression to the coastline from the airplane is 14°. How much farther
(to the nearest kilometer) does the airplane have to fly before it is directly above the coastline?
