to assess your current skills and competency levels and then develop a plan to move your career forward.

Task – Professional Competency

1. Describe methods you can use to assess your professional competency

2. Meet with two people who are familiar with your work and can assess aspects of your professional
competency, such as employees, colleagues, clients or supervisors to seek feedback on your work
performance. Take note of the meeting and ensure you include:
a. Date and the person’s name and title
b. Details of the feedback given including your strengths, areas of improvement and your
professional compentence

3. Based on the your responses to Questions 1 and 2, develop a Professional Development Plan. This is
to include:
a. Career Objectives
b. Development opportunities, such as training; include opportunities to undertake within one to
five years
c. Timeframes in which to achieve development opportunities, new skills, participation in
networks
d. How these plans align with your organisation’s goals, objectives and your work role
e. Create a LinkedIn profile to enable you to develop your professional network
f. Join at least one professional network or group that’s related to your professional
development plan
g. Action plan

Achieving Competency
For you to satisfactorily pass this assessment task you must:

• Complete all of the above tasks


• Where appropriate, provide detailed responses which clearly demonstrate your understanding of
the topic.

Your assessor will be looking for evidence and that you can demonstrate of the following:

• Measure and maintain personal work performance including assessing competency against
competency standards and seeking feedback
• Participate in networks
• Develop a personal development plan which includes career objectives and an action plan
• Develop new skills
