Being an exceptional teacher goes way beyond just teaching students from the
curriculum. My definition of a transformative teacher means being a mother, hero, role model
and even a friend to my students. As a transformative educator I will create an academic and
challenging learning environment that will encourage students to want to learn. As Goldstein
(2014) states, “effective teachers believe all children can learn.” Being a progressive teacher is
my main goal. I want to provide a classroom where my students will have a lot of say so and a
lot of choices. The ultimate goal is for their voices to be heard inside and outside of the
positive light, and be determined to develop a trusting relationship with each student to succeed.
One activity I plan to implement in my classroom is a question jar. This is where students can
confidentially ask questions that they are scared to ask and I will read and answer them at the end
of the day. My hopes are very high that all of my students will leave my classroom everyday
feeling more confident then they were yesterday. I will accomplish this by providing a positive
classroom environment that affirms all students’ capacity for learning. Last but not least, most
importantly, I will get to know each and every one of my students so I can teach them in ways
that apply to them individually. I will whole-heartedly believe in my students’ ability to change
the world. As a transformative teacher I will instruct students using a variety of methods
providing for all kinds of learners. I will use the different cultures of my students as an asset in
the classroom, I am beyond excited to be surrounded with a multicultural classroom, and anxious
to get to know each and everyone of my students. My students will even get to know their
classmates and learn about how beautiful and different everyone is. In addition, I am aware it
takes a village to truly make our future generation succeed. I will take into consideration all the
advice or help that I get from my peers. When curriculum changes or new procedures are issued I
will attend meetings eager to learn like I want my students to be. I will come prepared and ready
to learn any new material that will help mold me into the transformative teacher I dream of
being. Once I become a teacher I will make a pact that all us teachers have to stick together and
learn from each other. As amazing as this all sounds, I completely understand that to achieve this
mission it will take a lot of hard work and dedication. I plan to utilize all my resources at school
and take college serious, as I understand that parents will trust me to educate their children
properly. All of these essential elements of effective teaching in today’s classroom will guarantee
that our children thrive becoming successful and productive citizens of our society. Essentially,
my classroom will be a safe, orderly, caring and supportive environment. Being able to lift
students beyond what even they thought was possible and rise to soaring new heights within the
