Overview
If you are experiencing symptoms such as locked up control panel, dead machine, etc, use the following pages to isolate the problem down to a
board or component. Each step builds on the previous step. If you do not get the symptom associated with the step you are on, the problem is
associated with the board or components that were just added.
This procedure has been done on an e-Studio657 with System firmware ROM version 1261.
To Begin Troubleshooting
Disconnect all connectors from the LGC-PBA (main board), SYS-PBA (system board), PBA-CCD (CCD board), HVT, PLG, DRV, FIL, ACC-
PBA (power supply board), and IH boards. Remove the IPC-PBA from the LGC-PBA. Leave the AC input and output CN440 and CN441 on the
FIL board. Leave the AC input CN1, CN8, CN9 Power/Door Switches, CN11, CN12 and output CN2, CN10 on the ACC board. Remove the
SRAM, HDD and the DIMM Memory card from the SYS-PBA. Remove the NVRAM from the LGC-PBA.
Measure the following voltages on CN405 on the ACC Board when CN107 is disconnected from the SYS-PBA (See “Note” below): Pin 13
(PWR-EN) = 5vdc, Pin 1and 2 = 12vdc, Pins 5, 6, and 10 = 5vdc, and Pin 12 = 3.3vdc. All other outputs will be at 0vdc. Measure the outputs on
CN402, CN403, CN404, CN406, CN407, CN408, CN409, CN411, CN415 and CN416. CN411: Pin 3 = 5vdc. All other outputs are at 0vdc.
The cooling fan for the ACC-PBA will not run.
Connect only the SYS-PBA to the ACC-PBA, CN405 on the ACC and CN107 on the SYS-PBA. Measure the following voltages on CN405 on
the ACC Board when CN107 is connected with the SYS-PBA, Pin 13 (PWR-EN) = 0vdc, Pin 1and 2 = 12vdc, Pins 5, 6, and 10 = 5vdc, and Pin
12 = 3.3vdc. Measure the outputs on CN402: Pins 1 and 2 = 24vdc, Pins 5 and 6 = 36vdc, CN403: Pins 1 = 24vdc, Pin 3 = 5vdc. . Measure the
outputs on CN404: Pins 1 and 2 = 24vdc, CN406: Pin 1 = 12vdc, Pin 4 = 5vdc, Pin 7 = 3.3vdc. Measure the outputs on CN407: Pin 2 and 3 =
5vdc, Pin 6 = 3.3vdc, CN408: Pin 1 = 12vdc, CN409: Pin 1 = 5vdc, Pin 3 and 4 = 24vdc. Measure the outputs on CN408: Pin 1 = 12vdc, CN409:
Pin 1 = 5vdc, Pins 3 and 4 = 24vdc. Measure the outputs on CN411: Pin 3 = 5vdc, CN415: pin 2 = 24vdc, CN416: pin 2= 24vdc. The cooling fan
for the ACC-PBA will run.
If all voltages are correct, carry on to next step. If some or all voltages are not present, check all fuses. If fuses are good replace the power supply
(ACC).
Refer to the AC and DC wire harness connection diagrams in chapter 14 of the service manual for details.
Note: The above voltages will not stabilize and will not be present until ACC CN405 & SYS CN107 have been connected. For the related voltages
to release (3.3vB, 5vB, 5vD, 5vG, 12vB, 24vB, 24vD1, 24vD2, 24vD4, 24vF, 24v, 36vD and 120vac), pin13 on CN405 must drop to a “low”.
Since this is electronic and not reliant on firmware, if pin13 drops when the boards are connected and some or all outputs do not release, replace
the ACC-PBA. If pin 13 does not drop when connected, replace the SYS-PBA or inspect the associated wire harness. Also, the DIMM memory
must be installed on the SYS-PBA or the 24vdc relay will be unstable.
In some steps the machine will do a second boot after the first error. Please wait a few seconds for the second boot or the HDD can lock up.
