B: Investigating: i.

formulate a clear and focused research question, explaining its relevance

Formulate a research question:
What changes did Aristides make in WWII?

Is it clear? Is it focused? Share with your partner for feedback and revise your question below:
I think it is clear and focused on the changes he made in WWII.

Why is this question worth exploring? Why is it important for you?

It is worth exploring because I want to learn more about Aristides and how he affected WWII. This is
important to me because he made a change in WWII.

B: Investigating: ii. Investigating formulate an action plan to investigate your research question:

Action Steps: Finish Date How will I make this happen? What evidence will I have that
it is complete?

Investigating B: iii. Use methods to collect and record relevant information (Research a minimum of 3
sources)

Bystanders:
The perpetrators are Germany, “The Nazi policy of terror, which instituted the social
ostracism, arrest and - in the final stages - execution of anyone who helped the Jews” The
Germans threatened the Jews, and anyone who tried to help them. The bystanders are the
people who were too frightened to do something about the Nazi’s. “They did not openly
persecute the Jews but they did not actively help them either.” The rescuers were the people
who ignored the Nazi’s and took a stand for the Jews. These people would do things like protest
and save jews. “Furthermore, the benefits that many people received through the
dispossession and murder of the Jews also contributed to the prevailing bystander.”

They invaded France, Germany is the perpetrator. The bystanders are the Jews who would
fleed south to escape the Nazi’s. A Rabi named Haim Kruger was a refugee trying to escape along
others. He talked to Aristides. He agreed to give visas even though it was prohibited. He could only
give a visa to Kruger and his family, he could not give out more without the government's approval.
The Rabi refused to accept the visas. After that Sousa Mendes decided to risk his job and give out
visas. He tried to give many visas out to prevent refugees from going to concentration camps. When
people fled to the South those who were to enter Spain continued to Portugal

The perpetrator is the Portugal government who was pro-Hitler even though they were said to be
a neutral nation. They would refuse to help refugees, specifically Jews. Sousa Mendes our rescuer
could not stand to watch this go on he decided to take a stand. Due to this action they took away his
job and any form of earning a living. His two sons helped him issue visas to all the Jews. Their
punishment was the inability to attend college. All of his actions were noticed by many Jews. When
he was fired The Jewish Community of Lisbon took Him and his family in, providing a shelter and
food for them. They also helped his sons move to the US and Canada. Refugees who did not get a
visa would die on the Nazi camps.
Investigating B: iv. Evaluate the process and results of the investigation, with guidance

What challenges did I face in the research process? How did I overcome these?
At first when I began researching most of the websites would not load but, I found other websites that
worked out for me.

How well did my research actually help me answer my research question?

I think my research helped me answer my question correctly I learned a lot about this person.

On a scale of 1-5 with 1 representing least skilled, and 5 representing highly skilled, how would you rate
yourself as a researcher? Explain: I would give myself a 3 because I kind of rushed my research due to my
absence and I believe I could have gotten more Information.

What would you need to do in order to be rated higher on the scale?

I think next time I should be more focused and spend more time researching.
