Part B : Purposeful Citizenship - 35 Marks
Part C : Active Citizenship - 20 Marks
Part A)

Key Rights
1. Equality Rights
2. Freedom of Religion
3. Democratic Rights
4. Freedom of assembly and Association
5. Freedom of Expression

Key Responsibilities
1. To Respect the rights and freedoms of others.
2. To always obey Canada's laws
3. To participate in the democratic process
4. Serving on Jury
5. Taking responsibility for oneself and one's family.

Liberal Party
Positive
1. Trans Rights- Federal legislation introduced to protect trans rights and prevent
discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression. I think this
something extremely important because that is apart of equality. Which, we in
Canada take seriously and promote. Everyone is equally and just because
someone is from the LGBTQ communtiy doesnt mean there less of a person and
should have equal rights.
2. Preventing domestic Violence and sexual assault- “We will give more support
to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual harassment,
and ensure that more perpetrators are brought to justice.” -Justin Trudeau.
I think this a topic that needs to be taken more seriously because it
something that happens far to often. This something that can ruin
someone's life and cause serious problems in the future and we need to
address it because it not just gonna go away.
Negative
1. Marijuana - I think that legalizing marijuana should not be a priority. It will
be able for younger kids to get access, and when you smoke marijuana
under age, your brain is still developing and smoking kill children brain
cells. So in a away you could be harming the younger generation of
Canada. Aslo, I think that there are other thing we should be worrying out
about that matter more than marijuana.
2. The weakest results for the Liberals are on terrorism and ISIS, you hear them
talking about addressing issues and this is one of them. You never here them
addressing the issues on terrorism, just allowing more immigrants to come in

I would vote for the Liberal Party because those are really the only weaknesses I found
with the liberal and I think Trudeau has some good plans for Canadians.

Part (B)
Clara Hughes.

Clara hughes was born in 1972, in Winnipeg. The Winnipegger, Clara Hughes, a
dual-season Olympian, is just the fourth athlete to ever to win medals at the Winter and
Summer Olympic Games, and is the only athlete in history to win multiple medals at
both. Her six career medals tie her as Canada’s most decorated Olympian. But what
people didn't know was Clara struggled with mental illness. Her father had an addiction
problem and sister suffered with bipolar and depression. Clara, never told anyone about
this, in fact, Clara’s mom found out by watching her on tv telling her story. With Clara’s
mom already dealing with a lot on her plate, Clara did not want to add her depression a
secret, so she hid it. No matter what I won, I still had this void and darkness and
oftentimes feelings of self-loathing and worthlessness inside,” she said. Even though
Clara was bringing home medals she couldn't get past this depression she had been
dealing with for two years. Clara ended up opening to her olympic teams doctor about
this and he completely changed her life. Clara seeked help and now is a As
spokesperson for the bell “Let’s talk” campaign, she shared her struggles with
depression and mental illness and encourages other Canadians to do the same. “I was
really, really struggling” Clara now spreads word wherever she can about mental
illness also writing a book and donating all kinds of money to mental health.
Mental Health is a serious issue and you never know what someone's going
through. I think Clara sharing her story and spreading awareness is an incredible
thing because even though it looks like she has it all and lives this olympic
dream, she still goes through terrible struggles. I think it great for Canadians to
have such a positive role model like her. Being a canadian citizen and struggling
with mental illness, have someone like Clara gives you hope to keep fighting and
that it will actually get better. So with that, I thank you Clara.
