THE WORLDMUN SPIRIT

WORLDMUN TURNS TWENTY

Dear Friends,
It has been 20 years since the first WorldMUN team adventured to Miedzyzdroje, Poland to host a conference
committed to international cooperation and understanding. Over the years, our team has expanded and improved
our conference while still always espousing the “WorldMUN Spirit”. Today, we are the largest international
university conference with a community of thousands of students and teachers in all corners of the globe. We
are extremely proud of our accomplishments and it is clear that all of our alumni, whether from our very first
conference or from our most recent, have helped our conference make these huge leaps forward.
It is our pleasure to host a celebratory reunion to be held in New York City on January 22, 2011 at the Downtown
Association, 60 Pine Steet. We hope that we can bring together alumni to connect with memories of past conferences
and also learn about plans for the future. All alumni will be sent an invitation with more details in the near future.
Additionally, we have created an unmoderated group for alums to reconnect. Please visit http://groups.google.
com/group/worldmun-alumni to join.
If you would like to get involved with planning the event or if you have any questions, please e-mail Ken Li at
twenty@worldmun.org.
Hope to see you there!

Reihan Nadarajah
Secretary-General, WorldMUN 2011

RESOLUTION PROJECT
The Resolution Project was founded in 2006 by a group
of WorldMUN alumni with the goal of introducing a
real-life aspect to a delegate’s WorldMUN experience.
Its initiatives include the Social Venture Challenge and
the Career Panel, both of which have become a vital part
of our conference experience. This year, some of the
ventures the Resolution Project include IT empowerment
in Rwanda and green garbage in Venezuala. If you are
interested in getting involved, please visit http://alumni.
worldmun.org or e-mail info@resolutionproject.org.

Additionally, the Resolution Project will be hosting a

launch party on Wednesday, November 10th. The event
will take place from 7-10pm at The Greene Space, 44
Charlton Street, NYC (corner of Varick Street). If you are
interested in attending, please visit www.resolutionproject.org/events.

RECAP: TAIPEI 2010

Over 1,800 delegates from the most prestigious universities all
over the world made the journey to Taiwan this March to attend
our 19th annual WorldMUN conference. The week started off
with the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-Jeou, delivering the
keynote speech at the opening ceremonies, followed by a rousing
performance of traditional Taiwanese dance.

The conference continued into days of intense and stimulating

committee sessions, including our first foreign language
committee, a Specialized Agencies committee called Consejo
del Reina -- run entirely in Spanish! Other groundbreaking
committees included a Tamil Tigers Joint Crisis Cabinet and a
simulation of the United Nations Secretariat. Our phenomenal host team from the National Taiwan University put
together some of the most culturally exciting social events to date including Lunar New Year and Kung-Fu-themed
events. These events proved to be a huge hit amongst our delegates
and their appreciation of unique cultural events exemplifies how
exceptional our conference truly is. Whether at Global Village or
Cabaret, our delegates and team members alike demonstrated that
the WorldMUN spirit of international cooperation and friendship is
alive and well! WorldMUN
Taipei also introduced
organized post-conference
trips and groups of
delegates from across
the world (Harvard team
included) explored sites
such as Hualien and Taroko National Park together. These trips allowed
delegates to continue to get to know each other after the conference,
strengthening the friendships and cross-cultural conversations that were
started at conference.

During our team’s entire experience in Taiwan, we were constantly

surprised and pleased with how much attention our conference was getting
from the national media. Upon arrival, our Secretariat was included in
an exclusive press conference with the President and deans of National
Taiwan University. Our conference was also featured in numerous
magazines, newspapers, and television broadcasts. Throughout the
conference, there were always numerous video crews around (from the
U.S. and Taiwan), interviewing delegates and filming committee sessions.
It added a unique spin to our conference, again, showing just how much
our organization had progressed.
LOOKING FORWARD: SINGAPORE 2011
As many of you know, our conference this coming
March will take place in Singapore. We are extremely
excited to be working with an amazing host team
from the National University of Singapore. With our
conference this year, we plan on continuing our excellent
committee experience and unsurpassed delegate
relations. Furthermore, it is our wish to continue
what we started in Taipei in terms of culturally-rich
social events and additional in-conference and post-
conference trips. Always committed to the “WorldMUN
Spirit”, we are looking to make our conference more
accessible for delegates from under-represented regions
and schools around the world. This year, we also plan on
introducing key substantive committee improvements
as well as a high school MUN training seminar to improve our presence in the Harvard community. This training
seminar will invite top high school students in the New England region to our campus, where they will gain MUN
skills and experience from our talented chairs.

Because this conference is our 20th anniversary, our team has big plans on how to make it special. Our conference
will feature a 20th celebratory video competition in which delegates will be able to submit videos detailing their
favorite WorldMUN memory. Additionally, our opening and closing ceremonies, as well as social events, will
definitely highlight this landmark event. As part of our celebration, we invite any alum who would be interested in
attending to come. Again, please e-mail Ken Li at strategy@worldmun.org for more information.
