MANUFACTORING INDUSTRY: DESIGN PROCESS

In our discussion last week we tackle about the Manufacturing Industry: Design Process
related to mechanical engineering that can be one of the works of an engineer like automotive
where in something to do with manufacturing and designing of the engines of the vehicles and
also in the food industry where machines can take part of. According to Economy Watch
manufacturing industry refers to those industries which involve in the manufacturing and
processing of items and indulge in either creation of new commodities or in value addition.

As I mentioned earlier in making a machines there is a process of creating or designing

on it that is called “Design Process”. I learn that in making a product or machines there’s a lot of
things to ask to ourselves or need to consider one of that is what is the problem need to be solve?
Why we need to make that product or machine? It is useful? Do we need these in our daily lives?
It is efficient? Example some people who live in mountain area don’t have a source of electricity
and that is the problem where to generate electricity. As an engineer you make of a machines or
product that can satisfy a need and solve the problem.

Second is the Synthesis is a scheme to generate a possible way the product or machines
work. Like the electric generator you need a plan or program of action that make the generator
work like use of elements (water, air, heat, etc...) The third one is Modification or machine
design where all material you need is eco-friendly. There’s a lot you need to remember or
consider when making a machines design it should not regulate the PSME Code, Clean water
Act, Clean air act and other laws.

After that is the material selection where the material you use is good quality and long
lasting because if you use materials that are not good quality has a tendency that the product you
will make is can easily destroy and it can affect your work. Now that where done in selection of
material will move on to the Detail drawing were we use an application like CAD, Solid works,
Solid edges that will make our 2D or 3D of our machines and the last one is the Publication
where the will now make.

As a ME student I learned that mechanical engineer there is a lots of field of work you
can apply and also the processes in Design process that I can apply in the real world. As of now
there is a lot things that I need to learn.
