Visions abound in the readings for the sixth Sunday of Easter. Paul has a

PRAYERS UPON ENTERING THE PEW

God Almighty, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Grant us, we pray, to be
grounded and settled in your truth by the coming of the Holy Spirit into our
hearts. That which we know not, reveal; that which is wanting in us, fill up;
that which we know, confirm; and keep us blameless in your service;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ruler of all, preserve our nation in justice and honor, that we may lead a
peaceable life of integrity. As we thank you for those who have given their
lives for our nation through service in the armed forces, we pray your
blessing upon all citizens and residents of our nation. May we serve you
by preserving and furthering the rights, freedoms, and dignity of all people.
This we pray through Christ Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of all
nations. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Let us pray.
Bountiful God, you gather your people into your realm, and you promise us
food from your tree of life. Nourish us with your word, that empowered by
your Spirit we may love one another and the world you have made, through
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

FIRST READING: Acts 16:9-15 Refrain:

A vision compels Paul to move his ministry into Greece. There he meets
Lydia, an important person in the business community, whose heart has
been opened by God to receive the gospel. Her conversion and baptism
provide the impetus for the founding of the church at Philippi.

SECOND READING: Revelation 21:10, 22--22:5

John’s vision of a new Jerusalem coming out of heaven provides continuity
with God’s past actions. Yet in this new city, God’s presence replaces the
temple, and the glory of God and the Lamb supplant sun and moon.

And in the spirit [one of the angels] carried me away to a great, high
mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of
heaven from God.

I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the
Almighty and the Lamb. 23And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine
on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24The
nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their
glory into it. 25Its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no
night there. 26People will bring into it the glory and the honor of the
nations. 27But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practices
abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s
book of life.

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as
crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2through the
middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life
with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves
of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3Nothing accursed will be
found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it,
and his servants will worship him; 4they will see his face, and his name will
be on their foreheads. 5And there will be no more night; they need no light
of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign

GOSPEL: John 14:23-29
As the Gospel is announced, worshippers are invited to trace a cross upon
their forehead, then over their lips, and then over their hearts, silently
praying, “May the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ be ever on my mind, on
my lips, and in my heart.”
The holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
As Jesus talks of returning to the Father, he promises to send the Advocate,
the Holy Spirit, who will teach Jesus’ followers and remind them of all that
Jesus taught. Even more, those in whom God makes a home will experience
a peace that overcomes fear.

Jesus answered [Judas (not Iscariot),] “Those who love me will keep my
word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make
our home with them. 24Whoever does not love me does not keep my words;
and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me.

teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. 27Peace

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the
virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
Trusting God’s promise of new life, we pray for the renewal of the church,
the world, and all of creation.

CONFESSION AND PROCLAMATION OF FORGIVENESS
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Most merciful God,
we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We
have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have
done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our
whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us,
renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in
your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for
his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of
the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the

Let us pray.
Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower
us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad
and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
DIALOGUE
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
You are indeed holy, and glorious, and majestic, almighty and merciful
God. You so loved the world that you gave your only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. We give you
thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will and to
accomplish all things for our salvation.

In the night in which he was betrayed,

our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,

and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,

Remembering, therefore, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, along

to send us your Holy Spirit through the Body and Blood of Christ. Equip
us, through word and sacrament, to live as the people of your mission, so
that all the world may see and believe that Christ Jesus lives.

Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor

Risen Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us!

Therefore let us keep the feast! Alleluia!

Lutherans believe, teach and confess that we receive the true Body and
Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. If you desire to pick up the cross and
live in Christ, we hope you will receive with us. Even if you do not feel
prepared to receive the sacrament today we hope you will join us at the
table. Simply hold your hands over your heart and the pastor will give you
a blessing. Pastor will be glad to discuss Holy Communion and Holy

The risen Christ ascends into heaven , assuring his followers that the Spirit
will empower them to be witnesses throughout the earth. The disciples
were told to not gaze up into heaven to look for Jesus; we find his presence
among us as we proclaim the word and share the Easter feast.

Born of pagan parents, Justin was influenced by an elderly Christian in
Ephesus. He became a teacher of philosophy and the Christian faith. Jailed
for practicing an unauthorized religion, he refused to renounce his faith and
was beheaded.
