Course Handout for III Year II Sem E.C.E (Signal Processing) Program
A.Y.2018-19, EVEN Semester

Course Title : ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS

Course Code : 15EC3052
L–T–P –S : 3-0-0-0
Credits :3
Course Coordinator : Dr. Kasiprasad Mannepalli
Course instructors : Dr. P.V.V Kishore, Mr. N.Suresh Kumar, Mr. Buran Basha
Mohammad
Course Objective:
This course is designated to understand various methods in neural networks, which have been developed for
practical applications such as object recognition, image retrieval, pattern classification, function approximation, and
control. The course will explain both the classical and the new techniques of neural networks in supervised,
unsupervised and reinforcement learning schemes. A single layer perceptron and neurons, feed-forward neural
networks particularly. It provides not only the technical details of Adaline, Madaline, learning rules, activation
functions, back propagation algorithms, but also covers different clustering and PCA in detail.

Course Rationale:
Artificial neural networks use learning algorithms that are inspired by brain learning abilities. Industry, worldwide,
is very active in developing products based on intelligent systems with emphasis on the latest neural network and
machine learning technologies such as supervised and unsupervised neural networks. In this context, the learner is
required to gain a practical and theoretical understanding of how neural networks can be processed by computers as
part of a specialized course
