My beautiful sunrise

My beautiful sunrise, you are the highlight

Of everyday. Oh, the way you shine ever so bright.
You look deep into my heart and help me put on a fight.
With eyes like the ocean, so very light.

You sing this mesmerizing tune.

The most colorful and brave,
Your eyes like a summer morning in June.
With arms filled with love, spreading light, they wave.

Oh how much I love you, I can count all the ways.

I love your beautiful shine and the calmness you give.
Just as you wake up, a new day rises
Giving me another reason to live.

My dearest sweetheart
Remember me even when we are apart.

Reflection: For my this poem I followed the Shakespearean sonnet. I found that the Shakespearean sonnet
is a timeless classic. I was inspired to write this after seeing a picture from my trip to Arizona. I had
woken up early to see the sunrise and it was something beautiful. I took a picture on my trip. As I was
scrolling through my memories I knew I wanted to write about the sunrise. The purpose of this poem is to
express that just like the sun rises every morning, the next day is an opportunity to do better. The sunrise
is a symbol of hope to the speaker. Everyday the speaker is faced with a challenge they are able to
overcome. Every sunrise brings a new day with new hopes and opportunities. I decided to personify the
sunset as a person as it allows the speaker to have a stronger connection to it. If I were to write another
Shakespearean sonnet, I would try to use more complex vocabulary since it adds deeper meaning to the
text. When reading another Shakespearean sonnet I will pay close attention to the rhyme scheme (abab)
since that was the hardest part in writing the poem.

Ode to the Stars

You gleam in the middle of the darkness
Lighting up the midnight sky.
You light up my path
Protecting me wherever I go.

You brighten the darkest night.

Looking back at me, you give me a comforting smile
Giving me a peace of mind.
Not only do you live during the darkest night, you are forever in my heart.

Oh my, He created you in His image.

You mesmerizing diamond,
Standing so confidently.
Reminding me of who I used to be.

My star, thank you

For giving me hope
And allowing me to dream.
I give you praise.

I held you close to my heart

And felt at peace.
I wished upon my star
I knew it would take me somewhere far

A path between
Life
And
Heaven.
You give me hope I never had.

You love me,

Not during the day
But during the night.
Despite my flaws
You love me.

I admire your beauty,

Strength,
Courage,
And sincerity.

My dearest friend,
He places you in the midnight sky
And still calls me
Beautiful.
Reflection: For my second poem I decided to write about stars. Stars are always something that I have
found very beautiful. I was inspired by the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats to write an ode.
With Christmas passing I remember reading the story of the three Wise Men to a group of children at
church. Suddenly I noticed the importance of the Star of Bethlehem. This gave me the idea to write
another poem to praise the stars. Just like the star provided light for the three Wise Men to go visit baby
Jesus, I wanted to focus on the idea that stars can light up our path to a better life. The purpose of this
poem was to not only praise the stars for their beauty but to realize beauty within oneself. God placed the
beautiful stars in the sky just as he created us. With this poem I wanted to emphasize on never giving up
and finding your inner beauty. I personified the star in this poem to portray it as a close friend of the
speaker. Another reason why I decided to write an ode to the stars is because Stella means star in Latin
which I found interesting. For future poems, I would try to incorporate more rhyme into my work. If I
were to read another ode I would understand the purpose of the writing is to praise a person, place, item,
or event which I was unaware of previously.

Sestina

She peacefully walked towards the illuminated,

path. With arms wide open, the gates of heaven
had opened. A ray of sunshine
painted on his face. With lips like a rose
he promises to guard her heart,
help her blossom, and give her unconditional love.

Everything fell into place, her unexplainable feelings of love

were clearer than the ocean bright. His smile illuminated
the night. Looking into his eyes, her heart
began to sing with joy. They were big, bright, and blue like the shade of heaven.
He handed her a cherry red rose
And a ring that sparkled under sunshine.

Despite waves in the ocean, she would forever remain his sunshine.
Hand in hand, their love
continues to grow, like an untamed garden. In this garden, she was his rose.
Like a diamond, she illuminated
his life. This was heaven
On earth, two souls becoming one heart.

With a pure heart,

He promises to be her sunny sunshine
on her darkest days. She thanked the heaven
for crossing their paths. So strong, a love
nothing could destroy. The curve on her lips was illuminated
As the sun rose.

He noticed her full cheeks turned into a blush shade of rose.

Skipping a beat, her heart
began to race. In awe, she glanced down, noticing the ring illuminated.
It reflected in the bright sunshine.
She thought to herself, ‘how amazing that I get to love
him for the rest of my life?’ He was her heaven.

If heaven
exists, this would be it. Her thin arms like a cloud rose
embracing the love
Of her life. One soul, one heart,
they promise to live life together in sunshine.
He grazed down at her as their faces were illuminated.

Reflection: I was inspired to write this poem based on a t.v show I was watching. It’s amazing to see how
much two people love each other. Their souls connect and turn into one. I have always believed in true
love and wanted to express it through this poem. I wanted to illustrate the connection between two lovers.
The purpose of my poem is to express how powerful love can be despite hardships. I decided to
incorporate my love for roses into the poem as well. I wrote a sestina poem because I wanted to challenge
myself and see what I can come up with. I found that the structure of this poem was really interesting. I
incorporated positive words in order to give the poem a positive connotation. If I were to write another
sestina in the future, I would try to use words with multiple meanings. By choosing words with multiple
meanings it prevents the poem from being repetitive. I found repetition very common when writing this
poem. If I were to read another sestina poem, I would focus on how the author uses the six words since I
had difficulty using multiple meanings.
