What will we be talking about in Chapter 6?

How can I prepare myself for starting Chapter 6 next week?

ELIGIBLE CONTENT:

None.

OBJECTIVE(S) (Be sure to include all four parts):

The student will state where they can find the course notes and other materials for Mr. Zelenky with 100% accuracy.
The student will complete the first homework assignment for Monday’s class with 80% accuracy.

MATERIALS:
Chapter 6 Overview PowerPoint
Pencil
30 pieces of colored paper (assorted colors)
Smartboard
Computer
ACTIVITIES (There are three sections here):

OPENING (Introduction, purpose, hook)

 The teacher will welcome everyone to class and open the PowerPoint presentation
 The teacher will say that since we only have 15 minutes today, I am going to just provide a brief overview of next
week and of Chapter 6 in general
 The teacher will state the bolded parts of the objectives

BODY (Bulleted step by step/differentiation must be included)

 The teacher will go through each slide in the PowerPoint presentation.
 The teacher will point out the first homework assignment of creating a paper airplane for Tuesday’s class next
week.
 The teacher will pass out two pieces of colored paper to each student.
 The teacher will explain that their assignment is to create a paper airplane (2 pts), with at least three different
colors (2 pts), at least two different art materials (2 pts), a unique design (2 pts), and neatly done (2 pts).
 The teacher will then ask each student to make this paper airplane unique, just like themselves.
 The teacher will say that this is the main homework assignment you should be focused on between now and
Monday.
 The teacher will also say that each day, they can find out what we did in class and what is for homework by going
to Mr. Johnson’s calendar like before. There will be a separate space for all of my classes on each day. (This is so
that everything is consistent to what the students are already used to class).
 The teacher will say that his assignment space/folder on the calendar as well as Google Drive is the one that starts
with “Z”
 The teacher will quickly go through the rest of the slides in the PowerPoint as these slides talk about later sections
in Chapter 6

CLOSURE (Wrap up and brief summary): How will you plan to restate the lesson objective?
 The teacher will say that I know we went through a lot of information quickly, but there are two questions I have
to ask you.
 The teacher will ask students to say where they can find the homework assignments/what they did in class if they
missed class. (Mr. Johnson’s calendar, like usual or his Google Drive)!
 The teacher will ask students what they should be working on for Monday. (The paper airplane assignment!)

ACCOMMODATIONS/MODIFICATIONS:
 None for this particular lesson

ASSESSMENT: (How you will determine that student has mastered objectives?): Consider formative and summative
assessment measures for all levels of differentiation.
 The student will master the objective of stating where they can find the course notes and other materials.
 The student will master the objective of completing the first homework assignment for Tuesday’s class.

SELF-ASSESSMENT/REFLECTION: (Complete this section if you have taught this lesson to peers or in clinical
placement):
I thought that the lesson went very well today. I liked how I was able to talk about their first homework
assignment that is going to be due on Monday and explain how I wanted the kids to have fun on this assignment. I think
the kids now understand that I want them to learn geometry, but that I am not afraid to try different things to keep their
interest and getting them to learn. I also liked how students were actively participating and asking questions when going
over their homework assignment for Monday and they even started to work on their assignments with the remaining five
minutes that I gave them in class.

I feel that this lesson could have gone better if I gave the students more direction on what to do with their paper
airplane homework assignment. I didn’t realize how many questions I would get from students regarding my expectations.
I had several students ask me what kind of materials they can use to make their paper airplane. I think me being open to
almost anything on how they wanted to be creative with their paper airplane surprised them. If I were to teach this lesson
again, I think I would provide a list of options for students to choose from as far as the two different types of art supplies
are concerned. The addition of a list of choices might allow students to focus better on working on their assignment at
hand.
