THE ARMY’S MENTAL FITNESS PROGRAMME
Mental health problems are widespread
throughout society, yet they are often hidden.
For the Army, the mental health and wellbeing
of our people is a priority. Mental ill health is
now the second most common cause of medical
downgrading and discharge.
The Army is continuously reviewing how we build the mental fitness
and support the wellbeing of our soldiers. We call our mental fitness
campaign ‘OPSMART’- Optimising Human Performance Through
Stress Management and Resilience Training. OPSMART draws
on research-based evidence to improve the resilience of both Regular
and Reserve soldiers.
It is split broadly between two key components:
• psychological skills training.
• mental fitness education.
