Introduction of Energy Efficient Motor
▪ Most electric motors manufactured prior to 1975 were designed and
constructed to meet minimum performance levels as a trade-off for a low
purchase price.
Iron loss: Depends on the magnetic structure of core and results from a
combination of hysteresis and eddy current effect.
Friction and windage loss: friction loss occurs due to the friction in the
bearings of the motor and the windage loss occurs due the ventilation fan and
other rotating elements of the motor .
Stray load losses : These are residual losses in motor which are load related
and are generally assumed to vary as the square of the output torque.
Design modification to achieve maximum
efficiency and reduce losses
Benefits Of Implementing Energy Efficient
Motor
Economic Savings Potential : Total electricity consumption in Europe in
2000 was 2574 billion kWh. Of this, 614 billion kWh was consumed by motor
driven systems. According to Energy Dept. by using EEM 181 billion kWh can
be saved.
Environmental Benefits : The burning of fossil fuels for electricity
generation produces various types of Green House Gases. So by implementing
EEM , electricity consumption will reduce – electricity production will reduce
– gas emission will reduce.
EEM can reduce maintenance costs and improve operations in industry due to
robustness and reliability.
Applications
Energy efficient motors are specially suited for industries which are power
intensive and equipments which run on constant load for long duration.
For example: fans, blowers, pumps, compressors etc. are some of the
driven equipments and industries such as textile, paper, cement, power
generation etc.
Conclusion
Finally I can conclude that most of the industrial loads having motor are
consuming 70% of the total electricity. So it is better to replace standard
motors with EEM where ever economical. So that we can
Save energy.
Save money.
Save atmosphere from pollution .
