CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the methods that were used in the study in order

to realize the set objectives of this study. It contains the research design,

location of the study, target population, sampling techniques, sample size,

research instruments, data collection techniques and the statistical treatment.

Research Design

This study employed the descriptive-evaluative design to determine the

effect of parenting seminar on the academic performance of the students. The

researcher utilized the Grade 10 students’ average grades in Third Grading

(before the parenting seminar) and fourth grading (after the seminar) of the SY

2016-2017.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are the 76 Grade 10 students of Liberty

national high School of the School year 2016-2017.

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at Liberty National High School, Liberty,

Tampakan, South Cotabato.

Sampling Technique

This study employed the complete enumeration sampling technique. It

included all the 76 Grade 10 students, of which 35 are male and 41 are female,

of Liberty National High School for the school year 2016-2017.

Data Gathering Instruments

The researcher use the master grading sheets of Grade 10 classes as

well as the report cards (F138) to obtain the grades and general average of the

respondents.

Data Gathering Procedure

As soon as the Principal of Liberty National High School permitted the

conduct of the study in the said school, the researcher collected the third

grading grades of the respondents and computed to get the general average

or mean which served as the basis of their academic performance level before

the conduct of the parenting seminar. The parents of the respondents were

then given series of parenting seminars in one grading period conducted by the

school with the support of stakeholders such as Parents-Teachers Association

(PTA), Liberty Barangay Council, and Local Government Unit of the

Municipality of Tampakan, South Cotabato.

The Fourth Grading grades were then gathered which served as the

academic performance of the students after the conduct of the said activity.

The data gathered were then analyzed and interpreted.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Mean was employed to describe the academic performance of the

students in the Third quarter and Fourth Quarter. The t-test was used to

determine the significant difference between the third quarter (before the

parenting seminar) grades and fourth quarter (after the parenting seminar)

grades’ means.

The academic performance level of the students were interpreted as

follows:

Numerical Rating Description
