A Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 9

Lesson – Climate

Duration: 1 Hour

I. Objectives
1. Define Speed Operationally
2. Write the correct unit of speed.
3. Differentiate constant speed and average speed; average speed and instantaneous speed.
4. Measure speed of a moving body.
5. Demonstrate teamwork in gathering data.
II. Content Standard
The Learners demonstrate an understanding of:
Projectile motion, impulse and momentum and conservation of linear momentum.
III. Performance Standard
The Learners should be able to:
Propose ways to enhance sports related to projectile motion.
IV. Learning Competencies
The Learners should be able to:
Describe the horizontal and vertical motion of a projectile.

Review/Motivation
Good morning class! Good morning sir!
Last meeting, we discuss about speed and
acceleration. We had learned also the basic
equation used in solving for velocity, Yes, sir.
average velocity, and acceleration. I’m
going to group you into 6 groups and we
will do a simple activity. The teacher group
the students) I will give each group an
envelope identify what formula can be
formed using the variables and symbols
inside it. Write your answer on a bond paper
and post it on the board after 5 minutes.
(After 5 minutes)
Okay let’s check your answer: V=d/t
(Use the Power Point Presentation in giving
the correct answer).

After checking
Do you have still problem?
Clarification regarding our last topic?
If none then let’s proceed to our nest topic. None sir.

B. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #1
Our objective are the following:
At the end of this lesson you will be able to:
1.

On the slides are pictures/illustrations of

Weather and Climate.
Classify the following pictures/illustrations

Climate is the average weather condition of a
large area for a longer period of time.

I have here with me a picture of a globe let’s

see if you know the different Climate Zones Students are given the different climate zones and
and the Latitudes. So What are you going to degree of latitudes for them to label the world
do is to label the parts of the globe. Map.
After they have finish check if the answers
are correct by uncovering the answers in the Yes/No, sir
slides.
Are your answers correct?

C. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Activity 1. When the Sun’s Rays Strike

Name:________________________________________ Year & Section:_________________________

Teacher:______________________________________ Date:_________________________________

I. OBJECTIVE: a. Explain how latitude affects climate.

Study the illustration below.
D. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
II. QUESTIONS:
Q1. How much is the tilt of the earth’s axis?
Ans. The earth’s axis tilt 23.5°
Q2. Which part of the earth receives most of the sun’s rays?
Ans. The Equator receives most of the sun’s rays.
Q3. Why does the amount of heat receive by places far from the equator become less?
Ans. It is due to the tilting of the earth’s axis and the shape of the earth.
Q4. Why are the coldest places on earth found near the poles?
Ans. They receive less amount of heat.
Q5. Why are places with high temperature found at the equator?
Ans. Due to the tilting of the earth’s axis, places near the equator receive more heat making the air
temperature higher.
Q6. How does latitude affect climate?
Ans. When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.

III. CONCLUSION:
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.

E. Finding Practical applications of concepts and skills/ Evaluation

Given the World Map look for the following Countries and Identify their location on the map/globe and the
respective climate.
A.
Countries Location (° latitude) Climate
1. Philippines 15⁰ Tropical
2. Mongolia 46⁰ Temperate
3. Indonesia .78⁰ Tropical
4. Canada 60⁰ Temperate
5. Greenland 75⁰ Polar
B. Explain how Latitude affects climate?
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.
