A WORKPLACE ENGLISH Grammar Workshop
Course Description

OVERVIEW
English is an essential requirement in the working world in today’s fast-paced global economy.
Consequently, using English at workplace is different from general, conversational English, our workshop
has been specifically tailored to meet the challenges in your working life. We will arm you with the skills
you require to communicate effectively and confidently in your workplace particularly.

STRUCTURE
Our workshop focuses on the situations that are related to your everyday working life. These include
grammatical items commonly used in writing email and memos, participating in meetings, interacting with
colleagues, clients, visitors and etc.
This workshop is essentially communicative-driven. The key grammar in each module has been carefully
selected carefully to ensure that only relevant language skills are learnt and applied immediately and with
ease at the workplace.

C. EVALUATION METHOD

GRAMMAR PRE-TEST: The purpose of this test will place participants accurately according to their
grammatical ability which will be useful for the participants and can further enhance the planning process
for the trainers. The test will be administered online.

GRAMMAR POST-TEST: The post-test will measure the amount of learning the participants have
acquired after completing the workshop. It is expected that participants will be better equipped than what
they initially accomplished based on an increase in knowledge and understanding.

CEFR Communicative Language Competency for Grammatical Accuracy

Among the added value is that the workshop evaluation and reporting strategy will correlate to the CEFR

Maintains consistent grammatical control of complex language, even while attention is otherwise

engaged (e.g. inforward planning, in monitoring others’ reactions).

Consistently maintains a high degree of grammatical accuracy; errors are rare and difficult to

Good grammatical control. Occasional "slips" or non-systematic errors and minor flaws in
sentence structure may still occur, but they are rare and can often be corrected in retrospect.

Shows a relatively high degree of grammatical control. Does not make mistakes which lead to
misunderstanding.

Communicates with reasonable accuracy in familiar contexts; generally good control though with
noticeable mother tongue influence. Errors occur, but it is clear what he/she is trying to express.
B1
Uses reasonably accurately a repertoire of frequently used "routines" and patterns associated
with more predictable situations.

Uses some simple structures correctly, but still systematically makes basic mistakes - for
A2 example tends to mix up tenses and forget to mark agreement; nevertheless, it is usually clear
what he/she is trying to say.

Shows only limited control of a few simple grammatical structures and sentence patterns in a

D. CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will receive a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ and ‘Performance
Transcript’ from the Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy, IDFR.
