Increased Process Flexibility
Operation of the distribution chute at 12 rpm
(compared to 8 rpm) can achieve finer charging
patterns. An increase in rotation speed also con-
tributes to a reduction of impact energy of the
material stream on the stockline surface of
up to 40%.

Pressurized Cooling
With conventional chute transmission gearbox
cooling, the water is in contact with the blast fur-
nace atmosphere. Regular cleaning of the cooling
elements is required to ensure cooling efficiency.
To compensate for this loss of cooling efficiency,
large volumes of nitrogen must be injected into
the gearbox.
This in-turn results in reduced deformation of lay-
ers, coke-push and gouging effect. The benefits of
this flexibility lead to a new standard in charging.
The newly designed Pressurized Cooling relies on
S-CUP technology, which isolates cooling water
from the blast furnace environment and thus
avoids contamination. The S-CUP is contactless
and prevents water overflow into the furnace.

Continuous Greasing System

The Continuous Greasing System greases the chute tilting gears
during chute tilting. The number of greasing points has been in-
creased and the autonomy is at least 6 months.

With a combination of pressurized cooling and continuous greasing

a longer chute tilting gear lifetime is achieved.

Upgrade Considerations
`` T he standard chute transmission gearbox can
be substituted by either the PC series or the
G3 gearbox
`` During reconditioning, standard gearboxes can
only be upgraded to PC series gearboxes
`` While the G3 gearbox performance is supe-
rior, the value of existing spare parts inventory
should be considered.
