WEEKLY JOURNALS

Week Eight – Filming

FILMING

What practical work have you The practical work that I have done this week is filming a
done this week - and how helpful third interview with a professional music producer called
was your earlier planning? Ian Davenport on Friday the 10th May. For this my earlier
planning was not as helpful this is because we emailed this
producer in the planning stage and only just got a
response in this week. Since we only just got the interview
we did not have much planning for it to help us but the
day ran smoothly with no problems filming and traveling
there.

How will this be useful to you as This will be useful to me as the production process
your production process continues continues as it will be used in my documentary
production. It will serve as the main content of the
production as it is an interview that will show his views and
options on auto tune and talent shows. These will be very
valuable because they are backed up by years of
experience in the industry.

What issues did you encounter One issue that we came across was that on the day we
whilst out filming and how did you were not able to gain access to two tripods and the lights
overcome them? to take and film for the day. To get around this we
decided on just using a one camera setup which worked
just as well. For the lighting we just went and used the
natural lighting in the room adjusting some lamps so that
we got the best lighting possible.

How suitable do you feel your I thought that the locations used for our production were
locations were for your filming? very suitable for are theme and topic. Overall we are
looking at music and for each interview we filmed it in a
music studio with lots of music equipment and instruments
for a place that was music related for example the radio
booth in collage.

How have you made use of the I made use of the skills I gained on the course by when
technical skills you have getting to a location to film making sure everything was in
developed so far this year? the correct setup. I did this by making sure the cameras
did not break the 18o degree rule, using the lighting effect
so that it lit up the subjects face, testing the sound on the
mics so it was good and picked up everything we said
and deciding what type of lighting to use by observing
the location we were filming in.

Having reviewed your footage, After reviewing all the footage captured for this project I
are you happy with what you am very happy. All of the B – roll we filmed was just what
have captured and does anything we were planning on getting with all the music equipment
need reshooting? being available to film. Two out of the three interviews
were all good and shot nicely but in Tyriq’s interview in
some shots you can see me in reflections off some glass in
the door. I can fix this when editing so it is not a big
problem but if I was going to be doing this again I would
make sure to stay out the shot and check before filming
which I forgot to do last time.

Are you ready to edit? If not, how I am ready to start editing and I have already done so.
far behind are you? The last thing I need to do is record a final piece of
narration to conclude the documentary.

What work do you need to To stay on track I need to record a final piece of narration
complete outside of lessons to stay to conclude the documentary. I also need to add the
on track? third interviews information into my research.
