Brake pipework sealant compounds ESR 0313

1 Scope
Pipe joints on air brake equipment are NOT to be made with hemp or P.T.F.E. (teflon)
tape.

Shreds of hemp or tape can escape into the pipework and valves. This can result in the
brake system on a vehicle not operating.

Jointing compounds containing lead are also not to be used.

2 Preferred sealant
After extensive testing of various thread sealants, the preferred type for use is:

• Locktite 567 Master Pipe Sealant.

Should this type of thread sealant be unavailable, alternate thread sealants are:

• Chesterton ‘Gold End” paste Part No. 909

• La-co Slic-tite.
