III. Lesson Proper

Teacher’s Activity Learners’ Activity
A. Daily Routine

Good morning, class! : Good morning, ma’am!

Let us start our class with the

guidance of our Lord. Who wants to
lead us a prayer? Yes? : (Prayer)

Before taking your seats, see to it

that your chair is properly aligned
and pick up those pieces of paper
under them. : (The students will do as told.)

You may now take your seats.

Class Secretary, may you check the

attendance. Is there anyone absent
for today? :None, ma’am.

Very good. Keep up the good work.

B. Motivation

Let me share you something, I

learned all about alchemy. Yes, you
heard it right, I am an alchemist. I
have travelled all along the Sahara
Desert to find for my treasure and
finally, here it is. I want to share you
my treasure but with one condition.
Help me finish a task so that we can
able to open the treasure box. Do
you want to help me, class? : Yes, ma’am!

Alright. We have here a table, help

me answer what is flash on the
screen to complete our table so that
we can open our treasure box. Is
that alright to you, class? : Yes, ma’am

Now, let’s begin. : (The class will do the task.)

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Since we already complete the table,

we can open now our treasure box.
Any representative of the class may
come at front and open it.
: (Representative of the class will open the
treasure.)
Now class, what phrase has revealed
in our treasure box? : Arithmetic Sequence

That’s right! And that will be our

focus for today.

D. Development of the lesson

We have here the definition of

Arithmetic Sequence, who wants to
read it? Yes? : An Arithmetic Sequence is a sequence
where every term after the first is obtained
by adding a constant called the common
difference.

Is the meaning of arithmetic

sequence clear to you, class? : Yes, ma’am!

For further understanding, let’s take

a look to the result of our activity a
while ago. What do you observe on
the number of matchsticks? : The number of matchsticks increases by 3
as we add another square.
Great Observation!
Suppose we want to find the
number of matchsticks of 20
squares. Do you think a formula
would help us find it, class? : Yes, ma’am.

Great! Now we need to formulate a

formula so that we can easily find
the number of matchsticks of 20
squares. First, let’s rewrite each
term on how we obtain the second,
third, fourth, and fifth terms. What
is our first term, class? : 4, ma’am

That’s right!
Now, what we will add to the
second term? : 3, ma’am.

Brilliant!
Which is our second term will be
4+3. How about our third term, how
many 3’s will we add? : We will add two 3’s, ma’am.

Astonishing!
Which is our third term will be
4+3+3, right? : Yes, ma’am.

Very good! Now who wants to

complete up to fifth term? Yes? : a4 = 4+3+3+3
a5 = 4+3+3+3+3
Excellent!
Now, we will study each terms and
rewrite it in another form. Our 1st
term is 4+0(3), we multiplied into
zero since we don’t have 3 to add in
our first term, then, for our 2nd term
is 4+1(3) since we added 3 once on
the first term. Am I right, class? : Yes, ma’am.

Now who wants to write for the 3rd

term? : 4+2(3)

Amazing!
How about the 4th term? 5th term? : 4+3(3), 4+4(3)

Excellent!
Now, we can already determine the
number of matchsticks needed to
form n square. Will you read the
formula, class? : An= a1+ (n-1) d
a1 is the first term
d is the common difference
n is the number of terms
An is the nth term
Thank you!
Now, let’s check from our table. We
let 4 as a1 which is the first term, n
which is the number of terms and
subtracted by 1 to get the 1 and we
let 3 as d as the common difference.
Did you get it class? : Yes, ma’am.

Now, we can find already of how

many numbers of matchsticks in 20
squares. We will now use the
formula An= a1+ (n-1) d to find it.
Who wants to substitute our given
in the formula? Yes? : A20= 4 + (20-1)3

Commendable!
Who wants to solve it? Yes? : A20 =4+(19)3
=4+ 57
=61

Very good!
We can now conclude that we need
61 matchsticks to form 20 squares.
Did you get it, class? : Yes, ma’am.

For further understanding, let’s have

another example.
Will you read it? Yes? : What is the 10th term of the arithmetic
sequence 5, 12, 19, 26, … ?
Thank you!
Now, what is the first term of our
sequence? Yes? : 5, ma’am.

Very good!
Who wants to give me the common
difference? Yes? : 7 ma’am.

Exactly!
Now, who wants to substitute this
given in the formula? Yes? : An= a1+ (n-1) d
A10=5 + (10-1) 7
Spectacular!
Now, who wants to solve on the
board? Yes? : A10= 5 +(9)7
= 5 + 54
= 59
Precisely!
And the value of 10th term in our
sequence is 59. Did you follow,
class? :Yes, ma’am.

Seems like you already understand

on how to solve arithmetic sequence

E. Application
To test if you understand our topic,
let’s have a game entitled “Answer
Me”. Who wants to read the
mechanics? Yes?
: Mechanics:
1. The class will be divided into 4
groups.
2. Representative of each group will
come at front and get their materials
for the game.
3. The teacher will give an arithmetic
sequence on screen and answer
what is asked on it.
4. The first group who raise their board
first and got the correct answer will
get a point.
5. The group who will get the highest
points will be the winner.
(Note: The teacher will deduct points on
a group who is noisy while doing the
activity.)

Is the instruction clear to you, class? : Yes, ma’am.

Ok, we may now start.

In the arithmetic sequence

3,7,11,15,19, . . .
What is the first term? :3
What is the common difference? :4
What is the 25th term of the
sequence? : 99

Is the sequence 15, 17, 19, 21, . . .

consider an arithmetic sequence?
Yes or No? : Yes

If a1 =1 and d=5, what is A 4 ? : 16

Is the sequence 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2, 5/2,…

consider arithmetic sequence? Yes
or no? : Yes
What is the common difference? :½

Based on the outcomes of your

work, it seems you learned a lot on
our topic.

F. Valuing

We have here a figure, what is your

insight about it? Yes?

Sequence of Relationship
God –You –Family
Love Love : Love is the one to complete in every
relationship, without love, there is no any
kind of relationship.
That’s true!
We have here the sequence of
relationship which is God, You and
Family and their common difference
is Love. Why Love? Love is the
strongest force, God created us
because he loves us and we have a
family who cares us because they
love us so we need to love them
back as they love you with all their
heart.

G. Generalization

To sum up what we have tackled for

today, who wants to give me the
definition of Arithmetic Sequence?
Yes? : An Arithmetic Sequence is a sequence
where every term after the first is obtained
by adding a constant called the common
difference.
Splendid!
And who wants to give me the
formula of arithmetic sequence in
finding the nth term? : An= a1+ (n-1) d
Excellent!

You did master our lesson for today.

IV. Evaluation
To test your understanding on our topic for today, bring out 1 whole sheet of paper and
answer the following.

1. Find the 6th term of the arithmetic sequence 1,0,-1,-2,-3,…

2. Using the formula, which term of the arithmetic sequence is -18, given that a1=7 and
a2=2?
3. Find the 9th term of the arithmetic sequence with a1=10 and d=-1/2
4. What is the 15th term of the arithmetic sequence 2,4,6,8,…?
5. The third term of a sequence is 16 and the fourth term is 20, what is the first term?

V. Assignment
For your home delight, bring out your notes and copy what is on the screen to be check
tomorrow.
1. Give the definition of an arithmetic mean.
2. Find the arithmetic means between 5 and 25.

That’s for today. Goodbye, class! :Goodbye, ma’am.
