Many a times we are called upon to solve some issues like; users are unable to export data from
oracle applications into an Excel file. There are a couple of things that we need to examine.
1) Pop up Blocker;
If pop up blocker is enabled, that could be the reason for applications not to export. Users might
be asked to disable pop up blocker temporarily. If they prefer they could also hold down the
CTRL key on the keyboard which disables the pop up blocker while the file is being exported.
You could also add the site so that pop up blocker will not block pop ups from this site. To do
this in IE go to Tools > Pop up Blocker > Pop up Blocker Settings and add the site.
Internet Explorer:
Tools > Internet Options >Security Tab > Click on the “Custom Level” Button Scroll down to
Downloads – Automatic Prompting for file Downloads Check Enable and File Download Enable.
Mozilla Firefox:
Tools > Options on the Main tab Save Files to > Browse and specify a user preferred directory or
Check the Always ask me where to Save files Radio Button.
First ensure that Excel is installed on the user’s computer. Then you need to specify the file
association for the file type.
Oracle saves the file as a tab separated file with a file extension of .tsv you need to associate the
extension with Excel application, so that the file is always opened with an excel application.
Right Click on the Start Button and Explore as shown in the screen shot
Go to Tools > Folder Options – File Types Tab Click on new button
In the pop up screen enter .tsv as shown
Your user should be able to export and open the file with excel.
