Ten years ago this summer, my dad died.

As he was in his final treatments for AML (acute myeloid leukemia), it became clear
that he wasn't going to live. It was heart-wrenching. Just weeks before, he was
healthy.

From diagnosis to death, we had Dad just 59 days.

I've never been so sad in my lifetime.

Dad was an incredible man. 20 years in the Marines with three tours in Vietnam. 20
years with the State of Montana. 34 years, it would have been, with Mom. 69 years
as a very good man.

Before he passed, I interviewed Dad.

I asked a lot of questions about life, and throughout the interview he said things
like:

Be yourself
Be honest
Do your best
Take care of your family
Treat people with respect
Be a good citizen
Follow your dreams

He lived these messages and his influence deeply shaped all of us.

I still feel his presence and his memory and life continue to inform my decisions
and dreams.

We are all shaped by those around us.

And we all have the opportunity to positively influence those around us.

The question is:

Are you influencing others with real intention?

You could really CHANGE people's lives if you were effective in this area of
influence.

for you, love you, and support you -- and also carry on your ideas, love, legacy,

As many of you know, Denise is one of the great motivators of my life.

When I was starting this career - what we now call being an "influencer" - I really
failed.

I went broke and had to move in with Denise.

I had no money for rent or groceries. Somehow, she believed in me.

Back then, there was no clear path for authors, speaker, coaches, social thought
leaders, or online trainers - now all just lumped into the term "influencer."

It was a frustrating and discouraging start to my career.

But then one night everything changed.

I was writing on a little desk next to our bed. It was midnight.

My bills and vision boards and research were all over the bed.

Denise quietly entered the room, and slipped under the covers, trying not to
disturb my writing.

And that's when I turned and saw my woman, my love, my sunshine, my everything,
sleeping under the weight of my bills.

It was a crushing blow: None of us want our own inaction or inabilities to cause
hardship on our loved ones.

I wasn't winning. I wasn't getting it done. I wasn't growing and earning.

That moment gave me such a gift: pain coupled with what we now call "psychological
necessity."

It became NECESSARY for me to improve our lives.

It became NECESSARY to get focused, to get training, to implement, to win for us,
to serve my mission at another level of discipline.

I learned to become a productive and highly-paid influencer. (The topic of my new

LEGENDARY TIPS FOR BRILLIANT PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU

Hi there,

Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday!

Here is this week�s instalment of LEGENDARY TIPS FOR BRILLIANT PEOPLE where I tell
you some of the stuff I�ve been thinking about, reading and doing. This week, I
have a book recommendation, a quote, a film recommendation, an answer to a personal
question and a podcast suggestion. Also please check out my latest book Thinking on
Purpose, co-authored with Dr Richard Bandler and Dr Glenda Bradstock.

1. I�ve been reading The Alter Ego Effect by Tom Herman. It's a fun book that helps
you use your imagination in order to tap into the various forms of potential you
have. A fresh approach and definitely worth a read!

2. This quote from the legend Zig Ziglar is one of my favourites�."When you are
tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you".

3. Have you seen Life is Beautiful? An old Italian great from the 1990's but a
wonderful and powerful movie with lots of NLP principles in it. Not necessarily on
purpose, but loads of great ways of handling problems and explores how to deal with
when the very worst happens.

4. Here is this week�s personal question:

Q. There�s a fire in your house and you could take one book, what book would you
take?

A. One of my notebooks from a seminar that I've been at that I filled out over
three days.

5. Revisionist History: Malcom Gladwell tends to master the different perspective.


In this great podcast, he will educate you on things that we all got wrong. Full of
brilliant insight, this history podcast is very much about getting us to change how
we think rather than purely exploring historical events.
