Lesson Outline
1. Introduction:

The teacher will give a surprise seatwork and surprise announcement of deadline of activities. The seatwork is not
recorded and the announcement given is untrue.

2. Motivation:

The learners will answer a Stress Test entitled “Pilipinas, Stressed KNB?”

3. Instruction and Delivery:

The teacher will discuss the definition of stress, its sources and symptoms, different coping strategies with
stress, and indicators that stress is successfully handled.

4. Practice:

The learners will have a group discussion about their experiences regarding stress and write a short essay or
reflection about it.

5. Enrichment:

The learners will make a brochure about all the important matters of the lesson.

6. Evaluation:

The learners will create an Anti-Stress Module compiling different activities that help avoid and relieve stress.

INTRODUCTION
The teacher will present a surprise seatwork as soon as he/she enters the room, and a
surprise announcement afterwards.
Surprise Seatwork
In five minutes, answer the following:
1. Based on our previous discussion, define puberty in your own words.
2. What are the importance of group belongingness in an adolescent’s life?
3. What challenge is indicated when an adolescent is deprived of material comfort?
4. What makes career choice a challenge for adolescents?
5. Maintaining unhealthy relationship requires a certain level of
_________________.
Surprise Announcement
Dates to remember:
Wednesday – checking of notebooks
Thursday – graded recitation
Friday – long test
Monday (next week) – distribution of topics for reporting
Tuesday onwards – start of reporting

The teacher will reveal that the first two activities are not true or not valid as soon as the
students determine the true purpose of the surprise seatwork and announcement.

Pilipinas, Stressed KNB?


Sagutin ang bawat aytem sa ibaba sa pamamagitan ng pagsagot ng Totoong-Too (TT),
Paminsan-minsan (PM) at Hinding-Hindi (HH).
1. Nakapag-eehersisyo ako ng may tatlong beses sa loob ng isang linggo.
2. Mayroon akong sinasalihang samahan o organisasyon sa aming paaralan o komunidad.
3. Nakikipag-usap ako sa aking mga magulang o kapatid tungkol sa aking problema.
4. Hangga’t maari ay iniiwasan ko ang paninigarilyo o pag-inom ng alak.
5. Tama lamang ang timbang ng aking katawan.
6. Nararamdaman kong wala akong problema sa pagbibigay at pagtanggap ng
pagmamahal.
7. May kasapatan ang oras ng aking pagtulog.
8. Mayroon akong kahit isang kaibigan na nakauunawa sa akin.
9. Regular kong nagagawa ang isang libangan na gusto ko.
10. Nalilimitahan ko ng isang beses isang araw ang pag-inom ko ng cola, kape at tsaa.
11. Mayroon mang mga paghihirap, gusto ko pa rin ang pag-aaral.
12. Iniiwasan ko ang paggamit ng droga.
13. Kapag ako ay may problema, mas nanaisin kong makipag-usap sa ibang tao kaysa
sarilinin ko ito.
14. Mayroon akong mga kaibigan sa paaralan na tinatanggap ang tunay na ako.
15. Mayroon akong maganda at kasiya-siyang buhay pampamilya.
16. Nasisiyahan na ako sa aking kaanyuan.
17. Naoorganisa ko nang maayos ang paggamit ng oras para sa iba’t ibang gawain.
18. Nailalagay ko sa tamang perspektibo ang aking mga problema at narerelaks ko o
napapakalma ko ang aking sarili kung kinakailangan.
19. Sinusuportahan ako ng aking mga magulang sa mga bagay na ginagawa ko.
20. Mayroon akong oras para maging totoo sa aking sarili.

The students will give meaning to their scores using the following guidelines for
interpretation.
1 – 20 Magaling! Kayang kaya mong tugunan at makiangkop sa stress.
21 – 40 May pagkasensitibo ka sa stress Suriin at balikan ang iyong mga kasagutan.
Maaaring magbigay sila ng pahiwatig sa maaari mo pang gawin.
41 – 60 Mag-ingat. Sikaping paunlarin ang kakayahang makiangkop at makatugon sa
stress.

After the Stress Test, the teacher will ask the following questions:
1. As of now, are you stressed?
2. What can you say about your score in the Stress Test?
3. In what way/s can you improve handling stress?

INSTRUCTION / DELIVERY
The teacher will discuss the following concepts.
Stress
– a reaction of the mind and body to a stimulus that disturbs the well-being, state of
calm, or equilibrium of a person.

Types of Stress
a. Eustress– can challenge and motivate you to find creative solutions to your concerns.
b. Distress – when stress becomes so overwhelming and leads to a sense of
helplessness and exhaustion.

Three Views In Understanding Stress


1). Stimulus Stress – may be the events or situations that are life changing and very
challenging.
2). Response Stress – causes the body and the brain to secrete hormones and chemicals
that are manifested physically and which may drive a person to a certain behavioral
direction in dealing with the stress.
3). Relational Stress – is seen as a situation that a person interacts with.

Symptoms of Stress
Cognitive Symptoms Physical Symptoms

 seeing only the negative  chest pain
 being anxious  rapid heartbeat

 agitation or restlessness  isolating yourself from others
 feeling of being overwhelmed  procrastinating
 sense of loneliness  neglecting responsibilities
 and isolation  drinking alcoholic beverages, smoking
 depression or unhappiness cigarettes, taking illegal drugs, or
playing computer for several hours
 having nervous habits such as nail
biting and pacing restlessly
Two Ways To Cope With Stress

1) Problem-Focused Coping – refers to facing the situation squarely and exerting efforts to
solve the problem. It includes study skills, time management, problem solving skills and
support group. It also involves assessing the situation by describing it and determining
when the problem started.

2) Emotion-Focused Coping – refers to responding in an emotional way. Focusing on pain


can triggers emotional reactions, within turn influence our actions using defense
mechanisms. Example: realization and projection.

Indicators That You Have Successfully Handled Stress


1. Emotional stability
2. Being tactful
3. Doing well in school
4. Learning to say “No”

Activity 1: Banat Ko, Pusuan Mo!


1. Think of a tagalog “banat” line that really made you feel happy. This line or quotation
must have the word “puso.”
2. Write the quotation on a piece of paper.
3. Pass the paper to your facilitator before he/she tells the final instruction.

PRACTICE
Activity 2:
Group Task
1. Group yourselves into five or six.
2. Each member will share at least two experiences that stress them.
3. From their shared experiences, all the members will decide what stressors are
common to all of them.
Individual Task
1. On one whole sheet of paper, write a summary of your group’s common
experiences.
2. Reflect then answer this question, “for you, what is the best way to have a stress–
free life?”

ENRICHMENT
Activity 3:
Make a brochure that answers the following questions based on what you have learned.
1. What is stress?
2. What are the natures of stress?
3. What are the common symptoms of stress?
4. How can you manage stress?

EVALUATION
Anti-Stress Free Module
1. Think of different stress-relieving activities. These activities may be searched
online, surveyed from classmates or found in different books and magazines.
2. Print the full description or mechanics of each activity and identify its benefits or
advantages.
3. Compile these activities in a short plastic folder.
