DEPARTEMENT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION

COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is an introduction to concepts and techniques of movement and dance as a learning
program for early child. Our central problem will be how to understand the role of dance in early
childhood learning, the arrangement of dance creations for the early childhood, the selection of
movement, the making of costumes in accordance with the theme of the dance arrangement.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provide parents, care-givers, teachers, and administrators guidelines of what children
should know and be able to do each year from birth through five years of age in the arts-making
processes of Performing, Creating, Responding to, and Interconnecting dance to life and other
disciplines. The developmental progression of the standards is based on neurological
development, motor development, social development, and cognitive development as well as
artistic learning.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to complete the following key tasks:
Final Project: Final projects will be assigned to groups of 3 to 4 students. The projects will
consist of carrying out a complete valuation of a dance performance faced by parents. This will
involve: to do selection of dance learning materials and EC choreography, to write dance scrip,
to do an performance make up (make over dance), to create a costume, and able to apply it, to
create a dance creation that will be performed in front of audience. Students will be required to
give partial reports on the progress of their project during the term.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Please note that students involved in academic dishonesty will receive a ZERO grade on the
particular component in which the infraction occurred and a notation of academic dishonesty in
the Dean’ s office. Students may also receive a ZERO grade on the course, a notation of
academic dishonesty on their transcripts (i.e., Notation reads: “ Grade of F assigned for academic
dishonesty), and/or suspension or expulsion from the university. The University Senate
Resolutions on Academic Dishonesty states:
When students miss a regularly scheduled mid-term exam for legitimate reasons,
as adjudicated by the Academic Programs Office (APO), the weight for that exam
will be redistributed across other evaluative components of the course as deemed
most appropriate by the instructor.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Students with disabilities are required to inform the Centre for Student Development (CSD) of
accommodation needs for examinations on or before the last date for withdrawal from a course
without failure (please refer to official university sessional dates). Students must forward a copy
of such CSD accommodation to the instructor immediately upon receipt. If a student with a
disability chooses NOT to take advantage of a CSD accommodation and chooses to sit for a
regular exam, a petition for relief may not be filed after the examination is complete. The CSD
