DAY 1

Create: I’m a Saint
If you were to become a saint, how should you want to be known? (e.g.
Patron of PWDs, Patroness of Lonely People, Patron of Students with Low Grades
Patron of Doctors, Patroness of Lonely Children, Patroness of Mothers, etc..)
On 1 short bond paper, the student will creatively draw their own image
projecting themselves as a saint and to what do they want to be known.

* Try to be as detailed as possible by indicating the specific activities that will be done on the allotted days;

INQUIRE: The Nature of the Church


Discussion:
What is the meaning of Kyriake?
Why is its meaning related to the nature of the Church?
What is the meaning of ekklesia? How is it important in the
understanding of the Church?

Gospel Reading: Matthew 16:13-20


The Gospel identifies Jesus as the builder and owner of the Church.
When the Lord said, “I will,” that indicates present intention to do
something in the future!

Short Refection: It is a gift to be a part of Christ’s body; to be baptized


into this realm of fellowship with God and cooperation with His children
to do His work.

DAY 2

Quick Writes: The students will write a quick/short sentence about what
they have learned from the previous lesson. And they will go around
finding someone whom they can share their quick writes.

INQUIRE: Powerpoint Presentation on the Images of the Church and


Marks of the Church
The teacher will explain the meaning and significance of images and
marks of the Church which has been adopted by the PCP II to
understand more deeply what the Catholic Church is and should be
especially today.

Short Recall of the Previous Topic on the Images and Marks of the
Church.
Among the four images of the Church presented by the PCP II, which
one do you think is the one the Church has to be with the present
political, economic and social situations in the country? Why?
Do the Activity on p. 68 A. Church Today

The teacher then will randomly call on some students who are ready to
share their answers in front.

DISCUSS:
What is the threefold mission of the Church?
The teacher will briefly discuss the threefold missions of the Church
namely; Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly by showing images that shows the
threefold missions of the Church.

Why is the Church a communion of saints?


The Church is the instrument of God’s love and channel of His grace.

THINK, PAIR AND SHARE: Beyond Time and Space:


The Church as communion of saints includes those who are triumphant,
suffering and pilgrims. On p. 68, name the picture as triumphant,
suffering and pilgrims correctly. Discuss with your pair or partner your
answer and explain. Based from your discussion with your seatmate,
give a final explanation as to who are the triumphant, suffering and
pilgrims of the Church

The students will be asked to read the message from Pope John Paul II:

Dear young people,

The Church needs genuine witnesses…whose lives have been transformed by


meeting with Jesus, men and women who are capable of communicating this
experience to others. The Church needs saints. All are called to holiness and holy
people alone can renew humanity. - Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day, Aug.2005

What do you recommend in response to Pope John Paul II’s call? Work with a
partner to come up with four steps that people your age might take to
become holy. Write them on the activity on page 70 of your CL book.

Poster Making
The class will be divided into 8 groups.
Materials: ¼ cartolina, pencil and coloring materials
Each group or the leader of the group will pick a topic based on Lesson 5
The group will work on their poster following with the rubric explained.
Topics are as follows:
Church as Kingdom of God
Church as People of God
Church as the Temple of the Holy Spirit
Church as Body of Christ
Church is One
Church is Holy
Church is Catholic
Church is Apostolic
