OIL REPLACEMENT

1.0 Purpose
To provide the basic steps and procedure on the replacement of lubrication oil for the Circulating
Water Pump Motor upper and lower bearings.

2.0 Scope
Disassembly and reassembly procedure of motor accessories and its related auxiliaries for the
replacement of upper and lower guide bearing oil after the recommended running hours is meet.
Covers the inspection and cleaning of the upper bearing guide oil bath.
To specify the recommended torque values of each bolt after installation and tightening.

5.0 Responsibilities

5.1 Maintenance Manager


• To have overall responsibility for the approval and implementation of this
procedure.

5.2 Chief Electrical Engineer


• Is responsible of review, implementation and make sure that all the Electrical
Maintenance’s staff is aware of the document.

5.3 Electrical Supervisor


• Is responsible of the execution of the described work or activity of the document
as well as to ensure that it has been carried-out properly.

5.4 Electrical Technician


• Is responsible of getting the work permit prior to start the work as well as follows
the Electrical Safety Rules and Practices in the work place according to the
International standard NFPA 70E. Electrical Technician is also responsible of
following in the execution of the work according to this document, test's & checks
under enumerated activities must be satisfied.

6.0 Work Instruction

6.1 Disassembly of Motor


1. Request for scaffolds around the motor for safe access and work at Upper Guide
Bearing assembly.
2. Request for Lock Out Tag Out.
3. Refer to Attachment 7.2 page 1for procedure step location guide.
4. REMOVE breathing pipe (1) before fan housing removal.
5. SPRAY and SOAK all bolts with penetrating oil. REMOVE all bolts (2) around
the fan housing.
6. LIFT fan housing (3) with 2Tonner chain block attached with the crane hook.
7. SECURE fan housing at the ground level with wood planks underneath.
8. CLEAN accumulated dust around the circlip lock thread before removal.
9. REMOVE circlip lock (4).
10. REMOVE fan assembly (5) using the crane hook with chain block. SLOWLY lift
with chain block to start fan lifting and removal.
11. SECURE fan assembly at ground level with wood planks underneath.
12. DISASSEMBLE anti-rotation device cover assembly (6).
13. REMOVE all bolts (7) holding the anti-rotation device.
14. REMOVE circlip lock (8) for anti-rotation device.
15. LIFT and REMOVE anti-rotation device (9) with special pulling tools.
16. Spray and soak with penetrating all cover plate bolts (10) before removal.
REMOVE all cover plate bolts.
17. LIFT and REMOVE cover plate (11).
18. REMOVE drain valve cover (12), connect flange with drain hose.
19. PREPARE three (3) empty drums for used oil. Drain all oil inside the upper guide
bearing oil bath.
20. WASH and CLEAN the upper guide bearing bath with light diesel, REMOVE
accumulated dirt, stain and hardened varnish. USE cotton and lint free rags for
cleaning and drying.
21. REMOVE cooling coil support (13) if necessary to clean the cooling coil
assembly.
22. CLEAN and DRY the oil bath before re-assembly.
23. REMOVE and CLEAN oil level sight glass if necessary.
24. INSPECT and CHECK for any abnormality, water leak and overheating

6.2 Re-assembly
25. CHECK inside and every details of the upper guide bearing oil bath, REMOVE
for foreign materials, tools and any other object.
26. INSTALL cover plate (11), TIGHTEN all cover plate bolts (10) at 500 N-m
torque.
27. CLEAN shaft before anti-rotation device (9) installation.

28. INSTALL and TIGHTEN all anti-rotation device bolts (7). Tighten at 500N-m
torque.
29. INSTALL circlip lock (8).
30. RE-ASSEMBLE anti rotation device cover (6).
31. INSTALL fan assembly (5). SECURE the fan assembly with circlip lock (4).
32. INSTALL fan housing assembly (3). Secure and fasten all bolts (2) of the fan
housing, apply anti-seize grease before installing bolts.
33. INSTALL breathing pipe (1).
34. REFILL 140 litres of TURBINE OIL ISO VG68 oil using the filling port (14).
35. REPAINT all motor surfaces with signs of scratch and rust.

6.3 Lower Bearing


36. DRAIN lower guide bearing oil.
37. FLUSH with light ISO VG oil.
38. REFILL 85ltrs of ISO VG68 MEDIUM oil using the filling port.
