INTRODUCTION

“Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves”

-Julia Morgan

With the era of “big data” at hand, many academic disciplines are beginning to use
online data to perform analyses that would have been impossible with traditional
methods. Here we consider a domain in which we can study the dynamics of the past
through vast image collections the present: architecture. Architecture involves creating
buildings taking both aesthetics and practical factors into account. Thus, architectural
styles change over time reflecting the evolving necessities, artistic designs and
social/cultural attitudes.
Infrastructures refer not only those tall buildings found in rich urban cities but it also
stems to those small houses, pathways and bridges needed for a country or region to
function adequately.
Houses in different regions vary in architectural designs already to that of from different
areas. The styles used in architecture evolves and adapts to the conditions needed
either by time or by place. The occurrence of disasters are also a factor taken into
account by many professionals when planning on designs.
Knowing the changes brought by the ever-changing environment and happenings would
allow the efficiency and usefulness of styles used in architecture to go up another notch,
paving way for improvement.
In this study, the researchers want to prove that there are changes brought by time and
trends to the architectural designs of buildings. The following are the objectives of the
study:
General Objective:
1. To determine the variance in the designs of infrastructure in Cabanatuan City in the
years 1990 and 2000s.
Specific Objective:

1. To determine the improvement in terms of durability, stability, resilience of the

infrastructure.

2. To determine the changes in materials used in the various years.

3. How much increase or decrease happen in the price of houses during the years.
Background of the Study
Architecture progress for betterment consequently to changes happening in the society.
As a result, variations appear and different styles are used to bring out the ongoing
trend. As said by Louis Bromfield, “Houses, like people, have personalities, and like the
personalities of people, they are partly modeled by all that has happened to them”, this
is true for buildings as they are constructed accordingly to the changes
Knowing these variations and changes used in the designs of buildings as time goes on.
These buildings are where people reside in, as such, it would be beneficial not only if
one finds it to his liking, but also if his needs are achieved. To do that, one must know
whether improvements happened in the architectural designs throughout the years.

Statement of the Problem

The study entitled “Difference in architectural designs during 90s and 2000s” focused
mainly on determining the changes the happen across time on the designs of houses
and building at Cabanatuan City. It also answers the following question:
1.What improvements in terms of durability, stability, resilience, to the infrastructures’
design are made?

2. What changes in the materials used in the various years.

3. How much increase or decrease happen in the price of houses during the years.

4. What are the various sizes of area covered by infrastructures.

Theoretical Framework
Theory of Architectural Design
A rudimentary theory to explain the design of vernacular structures is presented. Conceiving of
architectural design as a social process, the theory focuses on the influence of utilitarian and
symbolic functions as well as on the trade-offs between production and maintenance costs. A
particular design is viewed as the outcome of a process of compromise among conflicting goals,
influenced by factors of adaptation and social organization. The theory is used to generate an
explanatory sketch for why the prehistoric Anasazi of the American Southwest went from being
pithouse to pueblo dwellers.(to be changed)

Scope and Delimitation

The study would focus on the changes the happened during the years 90s and 2000s in
architectural design. This study was carried out in Cabanatuan City, which is located in
Nueva Ecija. This study was limited to houses built during the said years in Cabanatuan
City.

Significance of the Study

This study will be undertaken to find out the changes of architectural design of houses.
Benefitting the study are the various sectors as follows:

3
The Society
This study would rebound to the benefit of society considering that infrastructures like
houses play an important rule in the daily lives of every citizen.

The Students
The direct recipients of this study are the students aiming to become either an engineer
or an architect. Any changes in the designs can pave way for better infrastructure.

The Authorities
This study will be used as a basis on how to enhance the buildings for future
references.

Definition of Terms
