D. Electrical Installations
1. One standby 630mm cable yet to be installed by Tanesco. This will be done during
completion of works.
2. Motor and pump protection is functional.
3. Pressure switches installed and functional on discharge manifolds.
4. Transformer No.2 isolated and locked out due to oil leak. The leak is contained and the
transformer is not accepted. To be replaced within new contract.
5. MCCB for Vamia pump installed and functional.
6. Electrical panels were cleaned and connections were checked for tightness
7. The two air conditioners were re-gassed and is operational.
8. Cable connection box were cleaned and labeled.
9. New sub-mersible pump was coupled to the raw water panel position 5.
10. New pump delivery 450 m³/hour, Velocity is 3.2 m/s, Current 62.3 A,
E. Emergency works
F. General
1. Production increased with the installation of the end suction pump and on o4 April 2019 all
reservoirs was filled for the first time ever. Level indicators to be installed on reservoirs to
ease operations of valves and distribution.
2. Vamia 2 and 4 pumps flexible couplings started leaking but were replaced with distance
pieces. Performance satisfactory. System vibration 10mm/sec.
3. Vamia discharge manifold started leaking at position No.1 and the gasket was replaced.
Additional support to the manifold is in progress.
4. Leak on Vamia water meter repaired.
5 CCECC kick off meeting took place 28 March 2019 for geotechnical survey
G. Maintenance.
1. Pressures of the surge vessels were ratified and are satisfactory, Vamia pre-charge 8.0 Bar
and High lift pre-charge pressure 5.0 Bar.
2. Funding of day to day consumables is problematic e.g. oils, grease and cleaning materials.
3. Clear water inlet lines were re-positioned and properly anchored.
4. Waiting for fittings to commission chlorinator.
H. Sanitation.
1. The sludge ponds are starting to be functional, the Algae growth is healthy and no smell and
odors are currently present.
2. The vacuum truck is overdue for a service. An oil change was done on the trucks which
exclude filters.
3. The vegetation growth in the sludge dry beds must be controlled otherwise it becomes an
unmanageable situation
4. Suction quick coupling pipes need to be purchased at least 60 meters in 6 meter lengths.

GENERAL
We continued to assist LUWASA in operation and maintenance of the water supply system.
Well Field and Water treatment Plant:
• Five boreholes are in operation. Three boreholes (BH3, 13 and 12) are not working due to VFD
problems.BH11 is not in full operation due to suspected high content of Iron and manganese.
• LUWASA continued to maintain the well field for water production while the security people are
still under the Contractor. However, LUWASA was advised to deploy own security people to take
care of the sites with effect from 1st of June 2019 even if OIA will keep his security at site. The im-
plementation is on progress.
• The water chemicals were procured and the treatment is done accordingly. However, the pro-
curement of reagents for water analysis is still on progress.
• High Lift Pump No.1 is still not working due to defective soft starter and tripping condition as was
reported in January 2019. After installation of the soft starter, the inspection will be done for repair.
Collector, Transmission and Gravity Mains:
• The Transmission Main continued to operate despite of minor leakages at Ngongo and within some
valve chambers. The leakages were pending for permanent repair through immediate and remain-
ing works contractors. However, the arrangement for repair of growing leakages through immedi-
ate works is on progress.
• The Collector and Gravity mains are operational. However, on the gravity main to Rips Tank, there
are two leakages which need urgent repair. The arrangements for repair are on progress.
Storage Tanks:
• Central Tank: The tank is well operating and no new operation challenges identified.
• New Mtanda Tank: The Tank is well operating. One of its inlet butterfly valves was not closing
properly. However, its settings were adjusted and is functional.
Distribution Network:
• The distribution network continued to operate apart from minor leakages within the valve cham-
bers at node junctions due to fittings alignment and /worn-out rubber gaskets. LUWASA is trying to
repair some of the leakages within the chambers. However, they are struggling to get the necessary
fittings e.g. adaptors, gate valves etc. for replacements when the need arises.
Sludge Digesters (Mitwero ponds):
• The sludge ponds are still in order apart from the inlet channels into the anaerobic ponds of
which the replacement of uPVC inlet pipes was partially completed at the time of contract
termination notice.
• All the deficiencies which were reported in the remaining and additional works are still pending.
