EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's Degree in teaching field.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:


Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the
department chair, Dean of Workforce Education or Vice President for Instruction and in which the
instructor has appropriate qualifications. Use up-to-date discipline and pedagogical skills to ensure
active participation and learning by students.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


I. Develop, evaluate and revise programs. courses and objectives to ensure instructional and
programmatic responsiveness to the occupational and academic needs of students and to
ensure instructional quality as demonstrated by students' achievement of competency-based
objectives.
, Prepare and. on the first day of class, distribute syllabi which inform students about course
requirements. grading requirements, testing assignments. absence policy. and other pertinent
information for each course assigned.
3. Participate a minimum of one posted office hour on campus for consultation with students.
4. Prepare, administer. and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform
students about their progress and to provide opportunities which will allow students to
succeed.
5. Prepare and submit to the Chairperson all relevant data concerning students on a regular

basis.

6. Follow proper procedures for requesting instructional supplies, and expendable supplies,

textbook requisitions and absence reports on a timely basis.

7. Completion and documentation on project request/worksheet on all work taken on as a class


project, and for retaining files for review and approvals by the Chairperson.
8. Coordinating and supervising teaching and lab activities including cooperative education
component in order to plan and promote the most effective instructional program possible.
9. Administer student evaluation forms on a timely basis.
10. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned
equipment. materials and classrooms.
11. Follow procedures related to the registration office, including grade reports and deadlines;
attendance record reports. withdrawal deadlines, class changes and time and room scheduling.
12. Work the required teaching load assigned with required designated office hours as deemed
necessary to meet the student" s needs for tutoring purposes.
13. Participate in the development of new curriculum and revisions.
14. Attending staff meeting. workshops/seminars and other scheduled activities as directed by the
Chairperson.
15. Use current technology to enhance institutional effectiveness. inc I uding but not limited to
computers, computer-assisted instruction programs, audiovisual equipment and in addition be
willing to learn and apply any other new technology necessary to enhance learning.
16. Participation in the assessment. implementation. and evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness
measures is required.
17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair. Dean of Workforce Education.
Vice-President for Instruction and/or President.

EXPERIENCE:
Three years work experience in teaching field. Teaching experience desirable.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:


Must haw knowledge of operation and control of the types of computer systems used by the
department. or similar systems; must have knowledge of computer networks, microcomputer
operating environments. and applications software packages. Must know or be able to learn what
teaching and testing materials are being used for all Computer Electronics Technology courses taught
at Laredo Community College; must be able to prepare error-free student testing materials: should
reflect appropriate office and telephone etiquette and procedures: should be poised and articulate in
English and in Spanish.

Discipline competence: pedagogical competence which engages the student and focuses on student
learning; ability to operate specialized laboratory equipment: ability to use current technology to
enhance teaching effectiveness. Concern with academic progress of students. Cooperativeness and
professionalism in dealings with College administrators. colleagues and students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of staning in a teaching environment. Required to lift items weighing up to 40
pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform
the essential functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to \\01'1\. outside regular
working hours. The employee may be required to work at a different \\01'1\. site or campus as
needed.
