WEEK 1

Student activity: Task 1

Task 1

1. Watch the following video clips about critical thinking:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cum3k-Wglfw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dItUGF8GdTw

In your own words, explain what critical thinking is.

CRITICAL THINKING IS WAY BEYOND YOUR COMMON SENSE, WHERE IT INVOLVES

ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEM-SOLVING THOUGHT PROCESSES. IT IS AN INTENSE
USE OF YOUR COMMON SENSE WHEREIN YOU THINK ABOUT THE MOST ACCURATE
SOLUTION TO A CERTAIN PROBLEM.

2. Using information from the video, explain in your own words what an argument is.

ARGUMENT IN RELATION TO CRITICAL THINKING IS AN EXCHANGE OF DIFFERENT

PERSPECTIVE IN REFERENCE TO A CERTAIN SUBJECTS WHERE YOU ARE GOING
TO ANALYZE DEEPLY WHICH WILL RESULT TO AN ARGUMENT ON YOUR MIND ON
WHAT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

3. Explain the difference between an ampliative argument and a deductive argument.

DEDUCTIVE ARGUMENT IS BASED ON FACTS TO PROVE YOUR ARGUMENT

WHEREAS AMPLIATIVE ARGUMENT IS USING OF WORDS TO CONVINCE THE
OPPONENT THAT YOU ARE STATING A TRUE STATEMENT.

4. Read the insights into creative thinking listed below, watch the video clip and then provide a
written explanation of five of the main points that were discussed in the video clip.

1. Think. Think. Think. And then think again. Part of the creative process everyday should
be to think up as many ideas as you can. No matter how daunting the task ahead is, there
is always a solution. It’s not entirely wrong to go with the first creative solution that comes
to mind, but if you give yourself the freedom to think, the likelihood is that you will amaze
not only yourself but the world with your ideas.

2. Don’t let fear hold you back. It sounds cliché, but as you embark on this creative journey
you will realise that you are your own worst enemy. What may sound ridiculous in your
head, may actually translate into something brilliant to those around you. Don’t self-doubt,
don’t hide.

3. Collaborate. It is often very easy to do everything by ourselves. However, part of the

creative process isn’t always knowing how to do everything, it is knowing who can do
what you want to get done. Reach out and ask people for their insights, their opinions, or
their skills if you need help. Don’t isolate yourself. Creativity is always bigger and better
together

WEEK 1

List 5 main points that were discussed in the video.

1. Why we need to go out of the box?

2. Which box are we talking about?
3. How do we go out of the box?
4. When is the good idea to think out of the box?
5. When should we experiment good ideas?

5. Now think about and describe two recent events in your personal or professional life where
you could have benefited from better critical and creative thinking skills.

THE FIRST SITUATION IN MY LIFE WHERE I COULD HAVE BENEFITED FROM BETTER
CRTICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING SKILL HAPPENED IN MY WORK LAST WEEK WHEREIN
WE RAN OUT OF STOCKS IN THE STORE BECAUSE IT WAS VERY BUSY DURING THE DAY
SO I THOUGHT OF BUYING STOCKS FROM THE MARKET, ANOTHER ONE IS WHEN I HAVE
TO REFILL THE STOCKS QUICKLY SO INSTEAD OF DOING THE STANDARD PROCESS OF
CUTTING THE VEGETABLES, I THOUGHT OF A MORE EFFECTIVE WAY TO CUT THE TIME
CONSUMED ON CUTTING AND REFILLING.

6. Why is it important to develop the habit of asking questions from different perspectives?

IT IS IMPORTANT TO ASK QUESTIONS FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE BECAUSE THAT IS

HOW WE GAIN MORE KNOWLEDGE AND TO BE EXPOSED TO DIFFERENT IDEAS WHICH WE
CAN USE IN THE FUTURE. WE MUST CONTINUE TO LEARN AND ABSORB NEW
INFORMATION FOR US TO BETTER OURSLEVES.
