Re: PEER REVIEW OF ANNE BECK PROJECT 3

Summary The author aims to describe why tourists should choose St. Ives for their next holiday in
England. Beck first comments on how St. Ives is not highly ranked on TripAdvisor as a
place to visit for vacation; she sees this as ironic, as the beauty found in the sunny seaside
town resembles the splendor of the Caribbean. The infamous Cornish pasty is then
discussed, a stable of Cornwall from the times when tin mining ruled the coast. Anna
continues to comment on how business rely on tourism to stay afloat. The author further
continues to discuss how the tide changes in the coastal town can bewilder the foreign
tourist. Lastly, Anna dives into a discussion on the hiking throughout coastal England, as
well as the self-guided walking tours of the town, that if planned correctly, weave among
side streets filled with the scents of freshly baked goods. The author ends the piece with the
assertion that St. Ives is an underrated place for holiday.

Major Points Overall, the essay was well crafted, but many of the paragraphs did not flow together. Each
paragraph felt that it would be more suited to separate pages of a website, which after
discussing with the author in London, seems to be the plan. The major flaws with the essay
deal with some contradiction within paragraphs. For example, the essay states that the town
lacks diversity, but a few sentences later it states that culture and diversity are a reason to
visit. There also appears to be a contradiction with audience. In the first paragraph, the
author mentions English tourists, but the descriptions of beaches in America and definition
of pasties seem geared to an American audience. The piece was overall well written, and I
enjoyed the integration of images as well.

Minor Points The minor points of the essay are included in the draft delivered to the author. Many of the
points made involve the restructuring of sentences, but there were very few minor points
that needed to be made.
