SECOND QUARTER
THIRD PERFORMANCE TASK
A DEBATE SPEECH USING DISCOURSE MARKERS

CN: B - 10 NAME: Libunao, Dayle M. SCORE: __________

SECTION: ST. TERESA OF AVILA SIDE: AFFIRMATIVE SIDE DATE: JANUARY 7, 2018
PROPOSITION: Resolved that ROTC be mandatory for senior high school students

I'm presently a junior high school student, specifically a grade ten student who
heard news regarding the proposal of the government to bring back the Re-
served Officer Training Corps (ROTC) within the senior high school, this issues me
and my batch mates the foremost because we might be the primary one to be
affected by this implementation. Personally, I believe this can be a wise decision
created by the Philippine government.

First of all, thank you for attending this discussion despite your busy schedules. To
all of the judges, to the negative aspect and to all of you I humbly offer my grati-
tude.

We on the affirmative side, strongly believe that ROTC ought to be implemented

as obligatory for the senior school students. I will be able to present the various
benefits of ROTC being implemented within the Philippines.

According to Article II, Section 4, of the Philippine Constitution: “The prime duty of
the government is to serve and defend the people. The government might de-
cide upon the people to defend the State therefore all citizens could also be
needed.”

Considering this Law, the government might call all people to participate in war,
my purpose is that, however will a civilian fight or may be of use if they didn’t have
a proper information during this reasonably conflict? This may be wherever ROTC
can be of use. ROTC-a reasonably education implemented by the government,
this is often thought of as a training for students to become emergency or re-
served military officers just in case of crucial moments; for example once a military
squad is lacking in members and is on the point of be launched in war, trained
students may be used as an augmentation force.

ROTC is a way of teaching students discipline. This can be a really effective

method of teaching in other words this is letting students have experience in life.
If we expect in simple terms students will use this discipline to use it in their daily
lives, creating additional civilians additional adapting to the various rules of the
country therefore, creating the crime rate lower, on the opposite hand, this expe-
rience could offer students additional memories, making it enjoyable and unfor-
gettable for them.
Hannah Holley said“ they're told once to get up, once to eat, once to work out,
and once to sleep. Traditional Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets enjoy a lot
of the freedom that's experienced by their classmates, whereas still learning the
discipline and leadership skills valued in military officers.” This proves that students
will definitely grow to be more disciplined than compared these days.

Reserve Officers Training Corps could also be considered as another reason for
stress, but don’t you think that this may even be a good way to train student’s to
fight against stress because usually student’s would think that extra tasks could
make them suffer, within the world these days those who will work more whereas
handling stress becomes more successful than those that can’t handle stress. Peo-
ple, who can’t manage their stress simply makes their issues more difficult which
can result for them to get sick, that’s one example of what situation coaching in
ROTC could resolve, therefore it's very useful for these future officers.

This ROTC is important most especially these coming days due to the country’s
dispute with China, which can eventually result to war, if not be resolved over with
peace. So as for the Filipino individuals to guard our country we'd like to train a
large quantity of officers to fight with. ROTC isn't strictly training of the body or
training going to war however as a matter of truth ROTC is taken into account as
a mixed education which has, life rescue, swimming and aid, so this might even
be thought-about as a primary aid or emergency training which will be used of
everybody.

As said by Military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo in his interview “Hindi
lang naman training ng katawan ang itratraining natin sa mga estudyante”, this
proves that learning ROTC may save lives, therefore making students a lot of like
first aiders contributing to the decrease of death rate within the country, briefly
this implies that implementing ROTC makes students not a muscle headed person
or an individual stuffed with useless knowledge, however makes them more
knowledgeable and helpful to others.

With these, I rest my case. Thank you. I'm now ready for the interpellation.
