K-12 DAILY School ALIMODIAN NCHS Grade Level GRADE 9

LESSON PLAN Teacher JOBANIE A.AMADHAY Learning Area SCIENCE

Teaching Dates JUNE 4, 2019 Quarter FIRST
and Time 8:30am - 9:30am

TOPIC/LESSON
Respiratory System
NAME

I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should able to:
1. Discuss the part and function of the Respiratory System.
2. Create a diagram to show the path of air in the Respiratory System.
3. Give importance of the Respiratory System in the human body.

Content The learners demonstrate an understanding of how the different structures of the circulatory and
Standards respiratory systems work together to transport oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the different parts of
the body.

Performance The learners should be able to conduct an information dissemination activity on effective ways of
Standards taking care of the respiratory and circulatory systems based on data gathered from the school or
local health workers.
II. TIME
ALLOTMENT 45mins - 1hour

STRATEGIES
A. Providing Good morning! Good Morning sir!
motivation
The learners will perform a breathing
exercise then let them identify the
organs involved in breathing. Try holding
your breath in a minute. What do you (Students raise their hands to provide their
feel? answers)

Very good class, you were able to

identify the organs involved in
breathing.

Now what comes to your mind when you (Students raise their hands to provide their
encountered the word breathing? answers)

B. Reviewing
previous
lesson
C. Presenting What organ system is responsible for The Respiratory system sir!
new breathing?
lesson/discussi
on
It is a system responsible for respiration.
What is respiratory system?

Let us define respiration:

Respiration is define as the exchange of
O2 from the environment and CO2 from
body cells.

There are 2 two processes occur during

respiration the inhalation and the
exhalation.

Who can define inhalation? Inhalation is the process of taking air into the
lungs sir.

Exhalation is the process of breathing out of air

Very good! How about exhalation?
from the lungs sir.

Very good!

Lets proceed to the main organ or The LUNGS sir.

primary organ of the respiratory system.
Do you know what is it?

Yes!!! you are correct!

So what do you know about our lungs? (Students raise their hands to provide their
answers)
(Left lung has 2 lobes while the right lung has 3
lobes) (located in the chest)

Very good, thank you for sharing your

knowledge to the class!

It is also where O2 is taken into the body

and CO2 is breathed out.

Most normal breathing takes place

through the nasal cavity, but the oral
cavity can be used to supplement or
replace the nasal cavity functions when
needed.

So do you have any idea on the instances

where do we need to use our mouth During exercise, because we need more O2.
when breathing?

That is very good observation.

What else? We use our mouth when we are having colds or
congestion in our nasal cavity.

Absolutely!!!!

Do you know what the function of the

ff.? (part and function or respiratory
system)

Pharynx - passageway of air

(esophagus - passage of food)

Larynx - responsible in producing

sound(voice box)

Also connecting the pharynx and

trachea.

Bronchi - connect trachea and

bronchioles

Bronchioles - tiny branches within the

lungs that are continuation of the
bronchi.

Alveoli - tiny grape like sacs within our

lungs that allow O2 and CO2 to move
between the lungs and bloodstream

Diaphragm - main muscles used when

breathing

D. Practicing We are already done with the anatomy (Students trace the flow of air into the
concepts / and physiology of the Respiratory Respiratory System)
skills System, we are now going to trace the Nasal cavity-pharynx-larynx-trachea-
flow of air into the Respiratory System. I bronchi-bronchioles-alveoli-lung/blood
would like you to create a diagram using capillaries
the malungay leaves which is
representing our respiratory system.

Very good class.

Before giving your final activity and

short quiz lets watch and sing the
respiratory song first.

(video of respiratory song)

E. Developing Class what is the importance of our (it brings O2 into our bodies, which we need for
mastery respiratory system to the human body? our cells to live and function properly.

Any more idea? Facilitates the sense of smell and it produces

speech
Exactly! In general, the respiratory
system is vital to the whole functioning
of the body.

I prepared a simple diagram of

respiratory process, complete the
diagram to show the path of air in the
respiratory system.

The first group to correctly finish the

diagram will gain 30 pts. While the last
group will only have 20 pts.
F. Evaluating We are now going to have a short quiz.
