Instrument Engineer Skills

1) Good analytical, mathematical, database, spreadsheet, and computer skills (MS Office).
2) Understands design concepts and design data for scope assigned to group and assures technical
accuracy and conformance to project requirements
3) Prepares Engineering Change Request as required
4) Keeps track of progress and updates schedules on particular tasks
5) Generates Instrument, Control Systems, and construction specifications and scope of work
6) Generates Instrument and Control System requisitions, analyzes quotes, manages PO’s, reviews
vendor documents
7) Independently evaluates the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures,
criteria and systems to efficiently meet project goals
8) Applies standard engineering tasks and exhibits a working knowledge of applicable codes
9) Reviews and generates design data from various inputs
10) Coordinates details and miscellaneous design criteria with other disciplines
11) Supervises, checks and assists designers and drafters in their assignments
12) Prepares and /or supervises engineering reports, studies, calculations and checks drawings as
required
13) Prepare Control valve sizing, flow meter sizing, instrument selection and reports.
14) Produces all Instrumentation and Control systems deliverables on the project, including
P&IDs; field instrument specifications, datasheets, and requisitions; control systems specs,
datasheets, and requisitions (including DCS, IPS, Fire & Gas, PLC, etc.); analyzer and analyzer
shelter specs, datasheets, and requisitions; flowmeter and control valve sizing calculations;
checks design drawings including wiring diagrams, location plans, installation details, loop
diagrams, panel drawings, etc.
Instrument Designer Skills
1) Knowledge of process instrumentation, ESD Valve, Control Valve and Fire & gas Instruments.
2) High proficiency with AutoCAD in the production of all Instrument project design deliverables
e.g. Cable Routing/trench Layout, Instrument Location Plan, Cable Block Diagram, Instrument
Installation Diagram, Loop diagrams, Very good knowledge SPI (Smart Plant Instrumentation) –
Intools.
3) Production of Instrument Hook-up drawings and associated material take offs (MTO)
4) Cable selection and production of appropriate material take offs
5) Experience of the design and implementation of industrial communications networks e.g. Fiber
Optic, Modbus, Profibus DP, TCP/IP networks would be advantageous.
6) Significant experience in conducting site surveys on various types of Instrumentation equipment
and systems and able to define scopes of work based on such surveys
7) Knowledge and design of intrinsically safe circuits.
8) Knowledge and design of Foundation Fieldbus Instrument wiring.
9) Have significant experience in the design and selection of equipment for installation in
potentially explosive atmospheres e.g. ATEX
10) Responsible for generating all type of 2D deliverable layout.
11) Knowledge in AVEVA PDMS.
