Release Notes Poco+ v2.4
REL-018.17 Issue 1.0; 24/05/2019

2 Details of Release
This is release v2.4 of the Poco+ software.
2.1 Description
Poco+ is used to configure Point Colour RTUs for Medina, DNP3, WITS, FTP and Standalone
operation.
2.2 Overview
This sub-section provides a high-level overview of the changes in release v2.4 since the last formal
release of Poco+ (v2.3).
2.2.1 New Feature – Add support for Point Orange IoT
The Point Orange IoT is being introduced, supporting 4G mobile networks using the NB-IoT and Cat-
M1 protocols. Poco+ has undergone significant changes to allow this product to be configured. This
includes a re-designed new configuration window, media options and contact windows. Please note
that IoT communications option is only available on certain product colours and telemetry stack
types, Poco+ will show this through the configuration window.
Application note “TN18-0021 - Point Orange IoT Getting Started” is available on request. It provides
further information on the new communications settings.
2.2.2 New Feature – SDI-12 Multidrop
This release includes the support for SDI-12 Multidrop, which allows Point Orange and Point Blue
RTUs to communicate with multiple SDI-12 sensors simultaneously. SDI-12 Multidrop requires
compatible RTU firmware, please contact Metasphere for further details.
Application note “APPN-0026 - Point Orange SDI-12 Multidrop” is available on request. It provides
an overview to SDI-12 multi-sensor networks and how to collect data from them.
2.2.3 New Feature – Configuration Conversion
This window hosts a wizard that will guide the user through the act of converting Point Colour
configurations between colour/stack/modem. Full instructions are included in the wizard itself. For
example, it can be used to convert existing Point Orange 3G configurations for use with the Point
Orange IoT.
2.2.4 New Feature – Add a description to each point in the points tab
Each point is now able to display a description of the intended use and any other relevant information.
This saves the user having to run the monitor points window just to see point descriptions.
2.2.5 Improvement – Several enhancements and various optimisation of the battery life calculator
The battery life calculator has been heavily redesigned and extended. This includes improvements
such as:
- Added calculations for Point Blue, SDI-12 Multidrop, and RTU powered Modbus
sensors.
- All active I/O channels including active loop, active voltage and any applicable serial
channels are now taken into consideration with a control for “Sensor Supply”. This can
be used to set the amount of current the connected sensor will use whilst it is powered
by the RTU, in the case of Multidrop buses this should be set to the combined current
for all sensors connected to the bus.
- More accurate regular wakeup.

Release Notes Poco+ v2.4
REL-018.17 Issue 1.0; 24/05/2019

- Modem power is always calculated; removed the dependency on the user entering a
valid IP address/phone number in order to calculate modem power.
- Only enabled points are included in calculation i.e. the point "enabled" checkbox on
Points tab must be checked for said point to be considered by the calculations.
- Added label to display total daily battery usage.
- Second active loop channel now accounted for when in Medina mode.
- Real-time updates as config is edited; general optimisation meaning calculations run
faster.
- Overall increase to accuracy of calculations based on real-world experience
2.2.6 Improvement – Update and simplify call progress window
The call progress window has been updated to support Point Orange IoT. The UI has also been
slightly simplified.
2.2.7 Improvement – Warn user when loading configuration that contains items from a newer
version of Poco+
Poco+ is now able to give more constructive error messages when a configuration file fails to open
due to it being generated by a newer version of Poco+.
2.2.8 Improvement – Add new points to monitor points window
Several new points have been included in the monitor points window, many in support of Point
Orange IoT and 4G network technology.
2.2.9 Improvement – Modem points support 4G products
The following points have been renamed to make it clear what is being measured and allow their
reuse across all products and network technologies:
- Internal CSQ (now Internal Signal Strength)
- External CSQ (now External Signal Strength)
- Modem CSQ (now Modem Signal Strength)
- Modem BER (now Modem Signal Quality)
Please note that depending on product in use the scaling and absolute limits of the points will be
selected correctly.
2.2.10 Improvement – Make Modbus wakeup configurable
A new checkbox has been added to the Modbus Serial Settings window that will allow users to
choose whether the wakeup command is sent to any attached Modbus sensors.
2.2.11 Improvement – Correct toolbar behaviour when current configuration is invalid
When a configuration was deemed invalid due to incorrect user input, several toolbar items were
being incorrectly disabled – this has now been rectified so that only save, download and export
operations are prohibited when a config is invalid.
2.2.12 Bug Fix – GSM incorrectly available as an option in WITS after loading config
Addressed a bug that was incorrectly allowing GSM as an option after opening a WITS-based
configuration file from disc.

2.2.13 Bug Fix – Dynamic trending properties not saved for Medina configs
Addressed a bug whereby when configuring dynamic trending on Medina, the state of the dynamic
trending tick boxes was failing to save to disc.
2.2.14 Bug Fix – Serial protocol controls blank after configuration file load
Rectified a rare issue whereby the two serial protocol dropdowns would appear blank after loading a
configuration, then removing and adding a new Modbus I/O channel.
2.2.15 Bug Fix – Non-Modbus serial I/O channels do not raise unsaved flag
Corrected a bug whereby serial points other than Modbus points were failing to raise the unsaved
flag correctly.
2.2.16 Bug Fix – Point numbers incorrectly change when switching between serial types
Corrected a bug whereby changing from any serial type to one which uses more points would cause
the point numbers to shift and change.
2.2.17 Bug Fix – Upload Local Trend Data window freezing
Corrected a bug the Upload Local Trend Data window would stop responding completely when
the Read All Data button was clicked.
2.2.18 Bug Fix – Serial points incorrectly marked as configured in Monitor Points window
The concept of configuring a point for use with a checkbox was added in Poco+ v2.3. This
unfortunately introduced a small bug whereby serial points were always displayed as configured in
the monitor points window.
2.2.19 Bug Fix – Points list summary displaying un-configured points
Corrected a bug whereby the Points List Summary window was displaying points, even if they hadn’t
been configured (ticked) for use in the points tab.
