1.0 OBJECTIVE
This proposal is intended to address the roughness that has resulted from minor
depressions on about 10Km stretch of the Chipata to Mfuwe road. Application of
a coarse slurry seal (type 3) has, in this proposal, been recommended for this
purpose.
2.0 MATERIALS
2.1 Aggregate
Suitable crusher dust meeting the coarse grading below shall be used;
Samples for testing have already been taken and the results shall be submitted
to the Resident Engineer for verification and approval. It shall be ensured that
onsite stockpiles for aggregate are well drained and that they do not become
segregated by wind or rain or contaminated with deleterious materials.
2.2 Cement
2.3 Water
Only enough water to obtain the correct slurry consistency shall be added. The
recommended 160ltrs per cubic meter will be taken as a guide. The water used
shall be portable. At the request of the engineer, compatibility tests with the
emulsion shall be carried out.
2.4 Binder
Anionic Stable Mix Grade emulsion 60% (SS60) shall be used at ambient
temperatures not exceeding 50 °C. About 200 litres per cubic metre of dry
crusher dust shall be added. Correction for moisture content shall be made
whenever damp aggregate is used.
All surface distresses needing repair prior to the application of slurry shall
be attended to as directed by Engineer.
All loose aggregate from brooming, and excess and spill emulsion shall be
removed from the travel way and disposed off to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
Construction-related signs shall be removed and traffic will be let to proceed on
the surface at least 24hours after placing the slurry.
