Name: Talia Waller

Client Information

Name of Client: April Hall (Certification ID: 834040)

Title of Client: Special Ed. Teacher- English Language Arts

Email Address of Client: april.hall@morgan.k12.ga.us

Organization of Client: Morgan County Middle School

Needs Assessment

The need for my client is to establish a program that effectively demonstrates how to
connect textual evidence to an initial claim. After observing each students’ pre-
assessment in writing, my client observed that the majority of all of the students had a
difficult time connecting textual evidence that they presented in their text to their original
claim. It is very important for the students to be able to explain why their evidence is
significant to the point that is trying to be proven.

Audience

The desired audience for my client is students who attend Morgan County Middle School
and are in the 8th grade. The students’ age ranges are from 13 years -16 years old, and
based on their learning style inventories, the majority of the students are visual and
auditory learners. Since my client is Special education teacher and co-teaches in each of
her classes with a general education teacher, her individual caseload consists of 13
students with learning disabilities. The demographics of the 8th grade students that my
client teach are as follows:

 Gender- 52.6% (Males) 47.4% (Females)

 Student/ Teacher ratio- 12.8 to 1
 Race- 66% (White) 26.6% (Black) 3.5% (Hispanic) 1.4% (Asian) 2.5% (Mixed
Races)

Content Area

The content area/ subject matter for my client is constructing a literary response and
effectively using to support a claim.

Learning Objectives

The students’ learning objectives for my client’s instructional plan is to be able to

construct a written response regarding a topic, and they will also be able to use evidence
to support their initial claim.

Standards

[W.8.2.d] Write informative / explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas,
concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant
content. Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain
the topic.
[W.8.2.f] Write informative/ explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas,
concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant
content. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and support the
information or explanation presented.

Learning Activities

As students participate in the learning experience for my clients’ instructional multimedia

lesson, they will complete a step-by-step interactive module over developing a claim and
using textual evidence how to effectively support it. The module will introduce a writing
response strategy, which is known as the C-SET strategy, and it will also provide students
with a practice prompt that will allow them to effectively practice making a claim, setting
up their evidence to support their claim and using a bridge to tie all of their information
in together. With the students being able to learn and practice this strategy from the
interactive module, they will better understand how the elements of and essay (supporting
paragraphs) work and how writing in general function.
Multimedia Resources

Online resources: https://sites.google.com/site/mrghannsclass/c-set-response-writing-

strategy (This source will be used to provide students with visual aids that present the
format and examples for writing in C-SET. It also provides an explanation for each step
of the process. This is a very helpful tool for students to use throughout their construction
to insure that they include each step).

Literacy Specialist

Accessibility

Module needs:

 The module will be constructed using one of the recommended fonts (Veranda,
Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, etc.)
 All URLs will contain the correct hyperlinks will contain wording
 Visual aids and documents will not contain animations and/or flickering
 Media controls are accessible
 Media controls are embedded in a way that users could navigate throughout each
page

Copyright and Fair Use

To ensure that copyright laws and Fair Use guidelines have been followed, the sources
and credits for each additional resource, other than from my own knowledge, will be
cited throughout the module.

Assessment

Students’ learning will be assessed over the standards by constructing their own written
response using the C-SET format. Each student will be provided an informational text,
and they will have to answer the following response using the C-SET format and
appropriately supporting their answer responses using evidence from the text.

Project Coordination and Communication

For this instructional module that my client and I have planned so far and established,
students will be able to manually navigate it on their own. This is very important in the
development and construction process of the module because all students process
information differently. It is important to my client that this is an element that is enabled.
This week, we are scheduled to meet and began constructing a visual/ format for the
student module and the exact information that it will contain. From there the storyboards
will be developed and so will the construction of the multimedia module. Once the
module has been constructed, I plan on letting my client complete the module and
determine if there should be any improvements regarding our initial purpose and plan.
