Narrative
In my class about teaching the development of theme I would like to start with the basic
knowledge to express clear information. This video gives the perfect opener on where to start
with character interactions and theme. For instance the video gives two different paragraphs and
shows context clues within the paragraphs to give the main topic of the message that is trying to
get portrayed. It also is a great way to introduce the authors textual meaning for the characters
theme and figuring out what the author wants the readers to learn. With the examples in the
video being loyalty and teamwork. As a teacher I would use this video by breaking up students
into groups and giving them each a paragraph of the book currently being discussed in class. I
will have them discuss the paragraphs theme and development of characters then we will discuss
the whole theme of the paragraphs as a class. I will put the paragraph in order and the look at the
development the book goes through. We will then discuss how the theme came to be with the
interactions of the plot and characters.

Narrative
I would involve the videos ideas into my teaching by using his two methods of
comprehension which are comparing and contrasting two different characters or even oneself and
using graphic organizers to keep your thinking in check. I would start my class with graphic
organizers by discussing plot, tone, allusions, and theme of the book. As a class we will break
down the book into important aspects to determine meaning. I would like each student to then
make a t-chart comparing the characters “journey” (of the story read thus far) and comparing it to
his/her day or a similar character from another book to see similarities. It is a great way to show
comprehension when the student can contrast events of the story to his/her personal life. This is
a great way to show one can understand and know a story and then compare it to other stories or
text.
