II.BODY OF THE REPORT

B. Background of the Study

Smoking is commonly used by males and is said to be dangerous for it causes many

diseases such as cancer. Even though it’s dangerous, people still use it. Smoking can cause lung

diseases by damaging your airways and the small air sacks found in your lungs. There are some

kids and teens specially girls, starts to smoke . Taking the cigarette out of the packs and inhaling

the tobacco aroma, in most case it is pleasant enough. Placing it in your mouth tasting the unlit

tobacco flavor is still mostly stress and anxiety that occurs with the absence of the substance or

associated behavior to which they are addicted.

II. B. Statement of the Problem

1. What are the reasons of the students of Lapay High School why they engaging their

selves in cigarette smoking?

2. How many students of Lapay High School engaging in cigarette smoking?

3.How many male and female students of Lapay High School are engaging in smoking?

II. C. Purpose of the Study

This study aims to identify the reasons of the students engaging in cigarette smoking.

Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to convince the students who are significantly

engaging in cigarette smoking to bear more resistant on the reasons leading them to do

smoking. This study will help the students of Lapay High School to avoid some situation which

may lead in using cigarettes; likewise, this study will be able to inform the faculty and staff of

Lapay High School.

II. D. Scope and Limitations

This study limits on identifying reasons of students engaging in cigarette smoking of

Lapay High School. This study focuses only to the students of Lapay High School who do

smoking. Furthermore, this study started last June 20,2018 and ended last September 20, 2018

in Lapay High School.

II.E. Definition of terms

Smoke-the gaseous products of burning materials especially of organic origin made visible by

the presence of small particles of carbon

Cigarette-a slender roll of cut tobacco enclosed in paper and meant to be smoked; also: a

similar roll of another substance (as marijuana) .

Airways-a passage for a current of air (as in a mine or to the lungs)

Tobacco-the leaves of cultivated tobacco prepared for use in smoking or chewing or as snuff

Stroke-to flatter or pay attention to in a manner designed to meassure or persuade

Blood vessel-any of the vessels through which blood circulates in the body

Blockages-an act or instance of obstructing: the state of being blocked <a blockage in a

coronary artery.

Cancer- a malignant tumor of potentially unlimited growth that expands locally by invasion and

system tumors.

Metastasis - an abnormal bodily state marked by such tumor.

 People say that they use cigarette for many different reasons like stress relief,

pleasure, or in social situation.

III.B.The Effect of Cigarette Smoking

Cigarette smoking cause’s more than 480 thousands deaths each year in the limited states.

This is nearly one in five deaths .Smoking causes more deaths each year. Smoking causes stroke

and coronary heart diseases. Which among the leading causes of deaths in the United States.

Smoking damages blood vessel and can make them thicker and grow narrower.

This makes your heart beat faster and your blood pressure grow up .Cloths can also form

blockages caused by smoking and can also reduce blood flow to your legs and skin .Cigarette

smoking causes most cases of lung cancer .If you have asthma, cigarette smoking can trigger

and attack worst .Cigarette smoking increases risk of death from all causes in men and woman.

Cigarettes smoking harms and nearly every organ of the body causes many diseases, and

reduces the health of smokers in general.

IV. Methodology (Design, Sampling and Data Collection)

The researchers use survey design through a questionnaires to gather the data needed

in the study. First, the researchers randomly selected the students to identify who are the

smokers and who are not. Secondly, the researchers identified 50 students who are engaging in

cigarette smoking. Lastly, these 50 respondents were able to answer the questioner and thus,

the researchers have found out the reasons why they are doing cigarettes smoking

V.B. DISCUSSION

The total no. of students of Lapay High School who are engaging in cigarette smoking are 50 ,there

are 46 males 4 males and 4 females .As the table and graph shows There are 30 percent of the

students who responded that they are doing cigarette smoking for popularity which is

responded by 15 students out of 50. Fifty percent (25 students) of them said that they consider

cigarette smoking as their stress reliever. The remaining 20% were divided equally into leisure

and pleasure which is 10% for each reason respectively. This means that there are 5 out of 50

students who said that they engage in cigarette smoking as their leisure as well us another 5

students considered that cigarette smoking gives them pleasure.

VI .CONCLUSION

Therefore the researchers conclude that the reasons of the students of Lapay High

School engaging in cigarette smoking is taking it as stress reliever who got the highest

percentage .Followed by doing it for popularity, considering it as a leisure and believing that it

would provide them pleasure.

There are 50 students of Lapay High School engaging in cigarette smoking ,46 of them

are males and 4 of them are females.

VII.Recommendation

The researchers would like to recommend the students to avoid the situations that may lead

them to stress, so that they will be able to resist in engaging their selves in cigarette smoking.

Similarly, instead of taking cigarettes they could have join school activities that will give them

enjoyment and relieve them from stress. Furthermore, the researcher recommend to the

faculty and staff of LHS to give enjoyable activities to the students so that they will be able to

get rid from stress.
