Reflection on The Importance of Being Earnest Presentation

In this presentation, we were required to create a presentation on the summary and

analysis of The Importance of Being Earnest. We were assigned to work in groups of
four and we are basically required to find all of the things that are needed in an analysis
such as the tone, literary devices, register and etc. We were given more than four
lessons in completing our slides which in return, should be completed in considerable
detail. However, our presentation definitely did not achieve that.

I think that our presentation on The Importance of Being Earnest was a total failure
as we achieved an overall of level 3. The main reason why our group failed was plainly
obvious. We were not prepared well enough and our presentation included several
plagiarisms. I am personally very disappointed in myself because I did not take any
responsibility for the group as I was just mainly focusing on my own slides. I wasn’t too
bothered with the other slides so I automatically assumed that everyone is responsible
for their own slides. Throughout the presentation, we were constantly challenged by
Dr. Sampson and we are unable to smoothly answer any of them. We had lots of words
that we do not understand and we did not cite any of the sources that we’ve used in our
presentation.

To continue my point as to why our presentation was a total disaster, my speaking

was not particularly good as well. I would like to think that my speaking wasn’t too bad
but I do not think that I was anywhere good enough. I think that my speaking ability
was the same as the past few presentations and it was too dull to listen to. I am able to
successfully communicate the ideas to the class but my voice was just not fun to listen
to.

If I were to do the presentation again, I will remember to always take responsibility

for the group and to always cite the sources of the things that I’ve used in the
presentation. I will achieve this through constantly double checking my groupmates
slides and to always create an extra page for works cited. In terms of the ATL skills, I
will have to improve my communication skills because my speaking is not good enough.
Furthermore, I would also like to improve my language usage. Considering that using
language is crucial to English, I think that it would benefit all the upcoming assessment
if I could improve this. I take this presentation as a learning experience for the future
and I will surely not repeat this again. I understand that this presentation does not
directly represent my overall report but I am now more determined to work harder
than ever.
