Terex Canica VSI

VSI Enclosed Rotor.

• The number of exit ports on a rotor will affect performance.

• Increasing the number of ports increases the crushing action.

• Increased crushing action leads to better shaped material – more

sharp edges on the product.

• The wear cost between 3 port and 5 port rotors would be

approximately the same. The 5 port rotor has a longer service
interval as it can be run at slower speeds.

• The following chart shows the crushing forces between different

rotor configurations.

40
Terex Canica VSI
Rotor Crushing Forces = P.P.S. / Pulses Per Second
Crusher Speed Crusher Speed Crusher Speed Crusher Speed Crusher Speed Crusher Speed Crusher Speed
1250 RPM 1350 RPM 1450 RPM 1550 RPM 1650 RPM 1750 RPM 1850 RPM
P.P.S. P.P.S. P.P.S. P.P.S. P.P.S. P.P.S. P.P.S.
3 Port Rotor 62 67 72 77 82 87 92
4 Port Rotor 83 90 97 103 110 117 123
5 Port Rotor 104 112 121 129 137 145 154
6 Port Rotor 125 135 145 155 165 175 185

How fast does a 3 Port rotor need to spin to match the 5 port P.P.S.?

At a crusher speed 1450 R.P.M.’s:

• 3 Port Rotor has a P.P.S. of: 72
• 5 Port Rotor has a P.P.S. of: 121

A 3 Port Rotor would need to turn 2,425 R.P.M’s to match

the crushing forces of a 5 Port Rotor!

Terex Canica VSI

Variable Speed Drives

Terex Canica VSI

Advantages of Variable Speed Drives (VFD)

• Speed control is a key to optimizing VSI performance.

• Flexibility to produce different size / shape material.

• Higher speeds = more fines.
• Lower speeds = fewer fines.

• Flexibility to crush different materials.

Product Shaping
Terex Canica VSI
Product Shaping

Avoid Flat and Elongated (F & E) Finished product.

For a .375” (9.5 mm) product, a typical

maximum allowable F & E content:
5:1 ratio < 10% of finished product.
3:1 ratio < 20% of finished product.

These numbers vary by product application

The percentage of F & E particles produced is affected by rock type.

Specific tests can be done to determine a go/no go in different applications.
