1.0 PURPOSE
1.1 To ensure that cable pulling is performed safely, efficiently and in accordance with good
working practice, as per Approved drawing / Job Specifications. The procedure is intended
to provide general application guidance and establish controls during preparation and
installation project standards/ specification. This document shall be valid till completion of
the project.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This Method Statement is applicable to all cable pulling activities which are to be
performed in Rageswari Deep Gas Surface Facilities for Fields Project except fiber
optic cables.

5.2.1 Prepare and submit method statement and material submittal for Petrofac/PMC and
Client review and approval.
5.2.2 Ensures that all the works are to be carried out according to the specifications
and approved drawings.
5.2.3 Provides all necessary information and assigns the responsibilities to his
construction team.
5.2.4 Ensures and monitors the work progress of work in accordance with the
required program and report the same to the Site Manager.
5.2.5 Coordinates with the Safety Engineer to ensure that the works are carried out
in a safe working practice.
5.2.6 Coordinates with the QA/QC Engineer for the tests (if any) to be carried out
and initiates for the inspection for the work activities.
5.2.7 Ensures the implementation of any request that might be raised by the
Consultant.
5.2.8 Coordinates with the site foreman / Supervisor and plans the works in advance
as per the work sequence.
5.2.9 Provide immediate support to site for technical problems encountered during
installation with consultation with Field Engineering of PIC/PMC/Client.
5.3.1 Ensure relevant permits are raised and received prior to commencement of work, with
full compliance by all electrical foremen, electricians and labor regarding execution of
the work in accordance with PSAL /Saudi Aramco project requirements and
specifications.
5.3.2 Reviewed and planning of work with accordance to approve work method statement.
5.3.3 Confirm the availability of AFC drawings at site along with all materials, tools,
equipment, and required personnel who will carry out the work safely.
5.3.4 Prepare and submit progress reports day to day to all concerned. Raise RFI with
consultation of Engineer in charge.
5.3.5 Responsible for the execution of the work, manpower assignments and hourly monitor
the work done and preparing the work activities for the electrician.
5.3.6 Ensure the safe work atmosphere of the workmen and daily safety reminder prior to
commencement of work as well as the monitoring of the daily activities for the
installation of the cables and update the status and progress report.

5.4.1 Monitor daily, electrical activities and verify compliance to Customer’s Specifications.
Perform activities in accordance with the Project QA Manual and Quality Control
Inspection Plan.
5.4.2 Prepare daily QC records and final acceptance documentation and responsible and
originator RFI’s. Maintain a close working relationship with the Customer’s
Representative.
5.4.3 Ensure the relevant works done are thoroughly checked daily and corrected according
to Standard, AFC drawing and the project specifications and by all associated
craftsmen to the requirements of this procedure, as well as he is the key person to
monitor and coordinate.
5.5.1 Monitor that the work is carried out in accordance with PSAL/Saudi Aramco project
safety procedures.
5.6.1 Responsible for handling materials for coordination and supervision of all warehouse
activities and he will coordinate all sub-contractor warehouse personnel which are
under his supervision.
5.6.2 The Store Keeper responsibility is to identify the location and maintain preservation of
the materials or equipment’s at the storage area and keeping the record and control
all the materials / equipment’s was released.

6.2.3 The area of excavation will be cordoned off using safety barricading to stop trespassers.
6.2.4 Assign sufficient banks men, helpers and supervisors at the site prior to start of
excavation.
6.2.5 Required sign boards such as “DEEP EXCAVATION” “MEN WORKING”, “DANGER” and
warning boards will be placed to indicate the excavation work.
6.2.6 Ensure the working area at any confined space is free from any Hazardous Gas by
proper Gas testing using the Gas testing instrument.
6.2.7 If there are structures adjacent to the work area, proper temporary supports shall be
provided to the adjacent structure prior to start excavation.
6.2.8 Fences and minor structures of any character or upon within the limits of the works and
not necessary for the construction shall be removed carefully and stored neatly for
reinstating after the construction works.
6.2.9 If any Survey points, bench marks, boundary stones and markings falling on the area
shall be removed only with the OWNER / ENGINEER's written consent and shall be
stored and reinstated according to OWNER / ENGINEER's instructions.

6.7.2 Arrangements shall be made to protect the cable drums against effects of
weather and environment.
6.7.3 Material inspection will be carried out to ascertain that no damage has occurred
to the Cables.
6.7.4 In case of any damages common inspection and report will be issued.
6.7.5 Cables shall be inspected and tested on the cable drums prior to removal to the work site.
Test voltage shall be as follows:
Cables rated up to 600V : 500 Volts (DC) for 1 minute
Cables rated above 600V and up to
: 1000 Volts (DC) for 1 minute
1000V
MV/HV Cables : 5000 Volts (DC) for 1 minute
6.7.6 .
6.7.7 After the test, the end of the cable shall be sealed to prevent the ingress of
moisture.
6.7.8 Store material requisition shall be made.
6.7.9 The material shall be transported in their original packing to location.
6.7.10 The cable drums shall be off-loaded at the site locations as identified by the site
engineer.
6.7.11 It shall be ensured that there is no obstruction to movement of vehicles or any
hindrance to works of other companies.

6.8.14 Cables will be laid / pulled by hand and / or winch. During pulling with winch, if
required, the tension on the cable will not exceed that given by the manufacturer.
6.8.15 Cables will be pulled according to drum-cable cutting schedule and as shown in
the relevant drawings.
6.8.16 Bending radius of cables shall comply with cable manufacturer’s
recommendation.
6.8.17 Unless the lengths exceed the maximum drum lengths joints shall be avoided.
Joint markers indicating joint positions shall be provided above grade.
6.8.18 Before cutting the cable, both ends must be inspected to ensure sufficient length
is for proper dressing and end termination.
6.8.19 Soon after completion of every cable the cables will be tested for insulation
resistance.
6.8.20 The open ends will be sealed till termination. Cable identification tags shall be
installed soon after the cable pulling.
6.8.21 Cable tags shall be installed as per Client Specification
6.8.22 The cable schedule and drum schedule will be updated with the information on
cable pulling.
6.8.23 After completion of all cables in the same route the cables shall be dressed and
clamped.
6.8.24 Cable Joints position, if any, will be shown on the drawings.
6.8.25 Empty Cable drum will be transported back to store.
6.9 Above ground cable pulling
6.9.1 Cables shall be laid mainly above ground in cable trays perforated and ladder
type.
6.9.2 Cable rollers shall be placed at every 6-12 meters or less if required to avoid
touching of the cable to tray.
6.9.3 Cable winch, if used, shall be positioned in proper place for cable pulling.
6.9.4 The cable drum intended for cable pulling shall be identified as per that indicated
in the drum schedule.
6.9.5 The cable drums shall be unpacked. The cable shall be fixed to the winch by
means of a cable sock or gripper.
6.9.6 Required number of persons will be posted at the winch, if used, and near the
drum.
6.9.7 Cable laying will generally start from one end of the route length from other
suitable point if required.
6.9.8 In case of buildings, the drums will be placed outside the buildings and the cable
pulled in the opposite direction. After reaching the other end the length of the
cable required for reaching the location inside the building will be measured and
then cut the cable.
6.9.9 In case of cable lengths which are more than one drum length, all cables which
can be laid from original position will be completed. And then the cable pulling
set-up will be re-positioned to the next location, from where the next length will be
pulled.
6.9.10 Depending on the weight and size of the drum, suitable size of the cable rolling
shaft (Spindle) shall be placed inside the central axis of the drum.
6.9.11 Suitable jacks shall be placed firm ground and jacked-up to allow clearance from
the ground depending on the size of the cable drum.
6.9.12 The drum shall be lifted by required equipment and placed on the jacks. The
cable drum will be correctly positioned and the direction of cable pulling as
indicated by arrow on the drum shall be complied.
6.9.13 Cables will be laid / pulled by hand and / or winch.

6.9.14 Cables will be pulled according to drum-cable cutting schedule and as shown in
the relevant drawings.
6.9.15 Bending radius of cables shall comply to cable manufacturers recommendation.

6.9.17 Before cutting the cable, both ends must be inspected to ensure sufficient length
is for proper dressing and end termination.
6.9.18 Soon after completion of every cable the cables will be tested for insulation

6.9.20 Cable tags shall be installed as per Client Specification
6.9.21 The cable schedule and drum schedule will be updated with the information on
cable pulling.
6.9.22 After completion of all cables in the same route the cables shall be dressed and
clamped. Cables shall be fixed in horizontal or vertical runs with or Cable ties.
6.9.23 Interval of clamping will be as per Client Specification, but will not exceed 10Mtr
for the horizontal runs and 1.0Mtr for vertical runs. When single core cables are
used the laying shall be in three-foil formation (Trefoil).
6.9.24 As-Built mark-up drawings certified by Contractor’s Supervisor and Engineer will
be prepared. Cable joints position will be shown on the drawings.
6.9.25 Empty cable drum will be transported back to store.
6.10 Inspection & quality Record
6.10.1 All stages of work shall be entirely attended, inspected and tested by approved QC
Inspector in accordance with the Approved Project Quality Control Inspection Plan and
Standard requirement.
6.11 Safety Precaution:
6.11.1 Barricade the working area.
6.11.2 All safety precautionary signboards must be visibly posted.
6.11.3 Wear full body harness when working at heights.
6.11.4 Ensure that only authorized personnel are within the affected area.
6.11.5 The work shall be executed in accordance with the approved job safety analysis (JSA).
6.11.6 Maintained JSA at worksite by work Supervisor, requirements shall be discussed in daily
Tool box meeting.
