VACANCY- CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL), invites
applications from suitably qualified persons for employment, on contract, in the position of Chief
Executive Officer. This position reports to the Chairman and the Board of Directors.

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides the strategic vision, planning, and
operational leadership to the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company
(SWMCOL). The CEO is responsible for developing and effectively implementing the vision for the
company, ensuring the appropriate program design and support mechanisms are in place for
SWMCOL to achieve its strategic mandate. The incumbent’s range of responsibilities and
accountabilities contribute to the overall achievement of SWMCOL’s strategic objectives. The CEO
must be a transformational leader and is responsible for developing and executing strategies to
build and maintain operational excellence and stakeholder value.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Develops and drives the corporate strategic direction for the company.
• Develops and implements a culture change plan for internal and external stakeholders
that promotes the maximization of resources and a culture of care for the environment.
• Drives overall growth and expansion of the company and takes responsibility for
development of revenue streams and new lines of business.
• Focuses on maximizing the use of revenue and making SWMCOL financially self-
sustaining.
• Establishes relevant organizational structures and operating systems to ensure the
achievement of strategic objectives.
• Defines and re-engineers core business processes.
• Translates corporate vision and strategy into organizational policies, directives and
procedures.
• Communicates and builds commitment to organizational policies, directives and
procedures among key constituents.
• Translates corporate vision, strategy, and performance targets into business unit plans
and performance targets.

• Builds the waste management technical capacity and capability of SWMCOL internally and
key partnering agencies externally.

• Ensures that core business processes (for example integrated supply chain, and customer
service) are in place and working effectively.
• Leads senior, middle management and junior team by providing effective mentoring and
guidance.
• Serves as principal external representative of the company.
• Develops successful business alliances.
• Protects and builds brand integrity of the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management
Company.

engage and motivate a diverse team of individuals toward achieving high performance
and optimal productivity

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• A behavioural profile that demonstrates a natural inclination to galvanizing and inspiring
people to change and to being resourceful and innovative.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of best practice approaches to Waste Management at a macro level will be an


asset.
• Knowledge of the administration of corporate governance in a state enterprise will be an
asset.
• Extensive knowledge of the planning and setting of business goals for a state enterprise.

• Knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting and controlling skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


• A recognized Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

VACANCY- CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

• MBA or equivalent post-graduate qualifications will be an asset.

• At least ten (10) years’ experience in an executive management capacity with proficiency
in leading and navigating culture change and nurturing positive game-changing
stakeholder relationships.

NOTE: Equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
