Grade 9- Hongkong --- 3:00pm – 4:00pm (Mon & Wed); 2:00pm – 3:00pm (Tue & Thu)

DLP NO: 6 Date: June27, 2019 Learning Area: Science Grade Level: 9 Quarter: 1 Duration: 60 mins.
Learning  explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together Code/s:
Competency/ies: to transport nutrients, gases, and other molecules to and from the S9LT-la-b-26
different parts of the
Key Understanding/s:  The learners demonstrate an understanding of how gas exchange takes place in the human body.
Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
K  identify the components of the human blood and its functions.
S  model the scab formation during wound healing.
A  appreciate the importance of blood in our survival.
V  show willingness to donate blood to those who are in need.

Procedures
1. Introductory  Checking of attendance
Activity  Motivation: Picture Analysis
(5 minutes) Provide an enlarged version of the different blood cell. Have the students match each blood cell to its
appropriate name.
2. Activity Collaborative Activity: Students will be tasked to model Scab Formation during wound healing process.
(15 minutes) Have students place 5 cm x 5 cm square gauze on a piece of aluminum foil. Place several drops of liquid
bandage solution onto the gauze and let it dry. Keep the liquid bandage away from from the eyes and mouth.
Use a medicine dropper to place one drop of water in the area of liquid bandage. Place another drop of water in
another part of the gauze.

Compare the drops of water in both areas. Describe how the treated area of the gauze is like a scab.

Platelets stick together like glue at the cut, forming a clot. This clot is like a protective bandage over your cut that
keeps more blood and other fluids from flowing out. The clot is also full of other blood cells and thread-like stuff
called fibrin (say: FY-brin) that help hold the clot together.
 3. Analysis  What are the components of the human blood?
 (5 minutes)
4. Abstraction  Blood is a constantly circulating fluid providing the body with nutrition, oxygen, and waste removal.
(10 minutes) Blood is mostly liquid, with numerous cells and proteins suspended in it, making blood "thicker" than
pure water. The average person has about 5 liters (more than a gallon) of blood.
 A liquid called plasma makes up about half of the content of blood. Plasma contains proteins that help
blood to clot, transport substances through the blood, and perform other functions. Blood plasma also
contains glucose and other dissolved nutrients.
 About half of blood volume is composed of blood cells:
• Red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the tissues
• White blood cells, which fight infections
• Platelets, smaller cells that help blood to clot
 Blood is conducted through blood vessels (arteries and veins). Blood is prevented from clotting in the
blood vessels by their smoothness, and the finely tuned balance of clotting factors.
5. Application Using the table below, ask the students to identify the universal donor and universal recipients.
(10 minutes)

1. Which blood can be donated to a person with a different blood type?

2. Which blood type can one receive without clumping?

6. Assessment Fill in the parts, description, functions to complete the concept map below.
(15 minutes)

7. Assignment Reseach about Hemophilia.

8. Wrap- "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
