ABSTRACT

This study focused on the relationship of the choice of secular music genres

and the social values system among the Grade 11 students of Northeast Luzon

Adventist College for the school year 2018-2019.

The study made use of the Quantitative Descriptive-Correlational research

design. The population was randomly collected among the Grade 11 students of

Northeast Luzon Adventist College which is composed of 140 respondents. The

researchers used their self-constructed questionnaire and computed the findings

through the use of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Data were

analyzed and the findings were presented in the form of narrative reports and tables

to facilitate the ease to understand the study better.

The study concluded that among 140 respondents, 60 of them prefer

listening to Pop music with a percentage of 42.9. On the other hand, the social

values system such as Utang na Loob, Bahala na, Respect for the Elderly, and

Bayanihan are still often practiced by the respondents. However, based on the

findings, the students’ music preference is no connection to their social values

system. Thus, the null hypothesis was accepted.
